Alexander von Humboldt begann seine wissenschaftliche Laufbahn mit Montanwissenschaften, Botanik, Anatomie und Physiologie und galt als einziger Nicht-Mediziner als Autoritat, die akzeptiert wurde. Seine Zuschriften, Versuche und Veroffentlichungen wurden kritisiert, gelobt und seine Korrespondenz war beispiellos. Ich versuchte eine Monographie zu dem Thema Medizin und verwandte Gebiete mit Bibliographien seiner Schriften bzw. Schriften uber ihn zum Thema sowie Bibliographie Werke uber Medizin in seiner Bibliothek, entstanden nach Uebersiedlung nach Berlin (nach der Amerika-Reise und Auswertung der Reise in Paris). Nenne die in seinem Werk genannte medizinische Literatur und in Spezialbeitragen zur Humboldt-Forschung (Briefwechsel u.a.) die zitierten Mediziner, Anatomen usw. Und Liste der Diplome die Humboldt erhalten hat. Mediziner in den Jugendbriefen sind publiziert aber nach der Amerikareise gibt es keinen edierten Briefwechsel mit Medizinern bzw. ahnliche Monographie. Dabei war Humboldt zeitlebens mit Arzten umgeben."

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Biographien, , Veranstaltung: -, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Nach dem Erscheinen meiner Bibliographie über Humboldt und die Medizin* wurden neue Dokumente entdeckt und eingearbeitet. Seit den grundlegenden Arbeiten zum Thema von Heinrich Schipperges (1959) wurden weitere Sachen veröffentlicht, aber eine Monographie fehlt immer noch. Ich bin Alexander-von-Humboldt-Sammler, d.h. ich sammle alles, zu jeder Wissensdisziplin, inklusive Biographisches. Biologie und Medizin interessieren mich besonders. Doch bin ich kein Medizinhistoriker. Ich habe dessen ungeachtet die hier vorgelegten Dokumente neu gelesen und das Wichtigste daraus notiert und als „Kommentar“ wiedergegeben, wobei der Kommentar eine Zitierung der Arbeit ist, nicht meine Worte! Selbstverständlich habe ich verzichtet, Wiederholungen zu begehen und nur das Wesentliche, Neue zitiert. Dabei muss man wissen, dass ich alphabetisch vorging. Das Hauptthema ist das sogenannte „Muskelfaserwerk“. Dies kann man von verschiedenen Blickpunkten betrachten, als Physiologe oder als praktischer Arzt, klinisch oder praktisch, und es war interessant, die verschiedenen Aspekte von den verschiedenen Verfassern zu dokumentieren. Als Einführung zum Thema wagte ich, aus den vorliegenden „Kommentaren“ eine Synthese zu machen. Dabei habe ich bewusst verzichtet, jede Anführung mit Verweis kenntlich zu machen. Wichtiges und Äusserungen Humboldts in Anführungszeichen bzw. kursiv gesetzt. Kommentare und die darin dargelegten Äusserungen bringen Hinweise auf noch zu untersuchende Aspekte zu „Humboldt und die Medizin“, ein Thema das noch zu wenig ausgelotet wurde. Besonders Humboldts Quellen und Urteile harren der gründlichen Untersuchung. Seine „Versuche über die gereizte Muskel- und Nervenfaser“ wurden noch zu wenig in die Medizingeschichte eingearbeitet, seine Korrespondenz mit Medizinern im weitesten Sinne noch nicht publiziert bzw. analysiert. Grundlage bilden die „Jugendbriefe“ (bis 1799) und „Briefe aus Amerika“ (1799-1804). Weitere Korrespondenz in seinem langen Leben zu Medizinern muss noch ediert werden. *Breuning, Markus: A. v.
