Estudiada, hasta el momento, la historia de nuestra postguerra cultural desde falacias interpretativas, perspectivas a históricas e, incluso, sirviéndose y acomodándose en el silencio tendencioso, el autor rastrea, en esta obra, la red de implicaciones sociales, políticas, culturales y de mercado del medio siglo español que desarrolló una narrativa muy específica, la denominada, como lugar común, realista y/o social: la figura y las contradicciones del intelectual que la produjo y la cobertura editorialista que la sostuvo. El aporte de los informes de censura, casi olvidados por la crítica, que el franquismo hizo de esta novelística significa una nueva vía de investigación y de esclarecimiento en el arduo proceso de intentar trazar la literatura de los cincuenta a partir de los aparatos ideológicos que la conformaron. Franscisco Álamo Felices, doctor en Filología Hispánicas, por la Universidad de Granada, es profesor de Teoría de la Literatura de la Universidad de Almería, y miembro de la Junta de Departamento de Arte y Literatura del Instituto de Estudios Almerienses.

Alfonso Grosso (Sevilla, 1928 Valencina de Concepción, 1995). Es un miembro más de la Generación del medio siglo y como tal, en un primer momento cultivaría el realismo social para luego después orientarse hacia labores renovadoras de la novela española que se encontraba en una cierta fase de esclerosis. Aunque es autor de muchos cuentos, destaca más como novelista. Entre las muchas novelas que ha escrito, nos hemos centrado en las que jalonan dos períodos distintos de su novelística: el del realismo social con obras como La zanja (1961), Un cielo difícilmente azul (1961), Testa de copo (1963), El capirote (1966) y el de un cierto refinamiento estético marcado por la publicación de Inés just coming (1968), Guarnición de silla (1970) y Florido mayo (1973).La suma de estos dos períodos nos permite cubrir 12 años de su novelística, un marco temporal lo suficientemente nítido como para indagar en la complejidad de un hombre cuya frontera entre vida y obra es realmente imperceptible. El estudio que le hemos dedicado a estas obras permite desentrañar no sólo la vitalidad arrolladora de Grosso sino también sus genuinas inquietudes existenciales. Desde este punto de vista, nos planteamos en la presente tesis doctoral conectar constantemente dichas obras con los presupuestos teóricos de la filosofía existencialista europea.Y como no puede hablar nunca de arte haciendo caso omiso de la estética, nos hemos esmerado también en desentrañar las posibles influencias del cine en la novelística de Grosso, haciendo hincapié fundamentalmente en el neorrealismo cinematográfico italiano que no tardaría mucho en manifestarse en las obras de los novelistas españoles de los años 60.Y más allá de la presencia de ciertos procedimientos cinematográficos en la obra grossiana, cabe reseñar en última instancia la interdependencia o interconexión solidaria en el mundo de las artes que tiene al hombre como su único y supremo creador y que se desvive por restituirle la complejidad de su propia condición.

The Boom is the socio-literary movement that brought the Latin American writers Mario Vargas Llosa, Gabriel García Márquez, Carlos Fuentes, and Julio Cortázar and the Spanish writer Juan Goytisolo to fame during the 1960s. Prior studies of the Boom have essentially focused on the characteristics of the movement in Latin America and have been interested mainly in the originality or literary experimentalism of the Boom, in which these studies mirrored the ideals of the Cuban revolution. This groundbreaking book presents a history of the Boom in Spain as well as in Latin America and critiques the myth of originality of the Boom, which is only conventional inside the parameters of literary modernism.
