This is the first volume of a modern introduction to quantum field theory which addresses both mathematicians and physicists, at levels ranging from advanced undergraduate students to professional scientists. The book bridges the acknowledged gap between the different languages used by mathematicians and physicists. For students of mathematics the author shows that detailed knowledge of the physical background helps to motivate the mathematical subjects and to discover interesting interrelationships between quite different mathematical topics. For students of physics, fairly advanced mathematics is presented, which goes beyond the usual curriculum in physics.

This book collects an extended version of the lectures delivered by the authors at the Fall Workshop on Geometry and Physics in the years 2014, 2015, 2016.It aims at introducing advanced graduate and PhD students, as well as young researchers, to current research in mathematics and physics. In particular, it fills the gap between the more physical-oriented and the more mathematical-oriented literature on quantum theory. It introduces various approaches to methods of quantization, along with their impact on modern mathematical methods.

Quantum Mechanics And Its Emergent Macrophysics written by Geoffrey L. Sewell and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-10 with Science categories.

The quantum theory of macroscopic systems is a vast, ever-developing area of science that serves to relate the properties of complex physical objects to those of their constituent particles. Its essential challenge is that of finding the conceptual structures needed for the description of the various states of organization of many-particle quantum systems. In this book, Geoffrey Sewell provides a new approach to the subject, based on a "macrostatistical mechanics," which contrasts sharply with the standard microscopic treatments of many-body problems. Sewell begins by presenting the operator algebraic framework for the theory. He then undertakes a macrostatistical treatment of both equilibrium and nonequilibrium thermodynamics, which yields a major new characterization of a complete set of thermodynamic variables and a nonlinear generalization of the Onsager theory. The remainder of the book focuses on ordered and chaotic structures that arise in some key areas of condensed matter physics. This includes a general derivation of superconductive electrodynamics from the assumptions of off-diagonal long-range order, gauge covariance, and thermodynamic stability, which avoids the enormous complications of the microscopic treatments. Sewell also unveils a theoretical framework for phase transitions far from thermal equilibrium. Throughout, the mathematics is kept clear without sacrificing rigor. Representing a coherent approach to the vast problem of the emergence of macroscopic phenomena from quantum mechanics, this well-written book is addressed to physicists, mathematicians, and other scientists interested in quantum theory, statistical physics, thermodynamics, and general questions of order and chaos.

Advanced Statistical Mechanics written by Barry M McCoy and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-12-17 with Science categories.

Statistical Mechanics is the study of systems where the number of interacting particles becomes infinite. In the last fifty years tremendous advances have been made which have required the invention of entirely new fields of mathematics such as quantum groups and affine Lie algebras. They have engendered remarkable discoveries concerning non-linear differential equations and algebraic geometry, and have produced profound insights in both condensed matter physics and quantum field theory. Unfortunately, none of these advances are taught in graduate courses in statistical mechanics. This book is an attempt to correct this problem. It begins with theorems on the existence (and lack) of order for crystals and magnets and with the theory of critical phenomena, and continues by presenting the methods and results of fifty years of analytic and computer computations of phase transitions. It concludes with an extensive presentation of four of the most important of exactly solved problems: the Ising, 8 vertex, hard hexagon and chiral Potts models.

The present monograph brings to readers, as researchers and students of physics and mathematics, recent developments in symmetries, where the representation space is a symplectic manifold. This gives rise to the quantum field theory formulated in through the concept of phase space and associated with the Wigner function, a quasi-distribution of probability. This approach provides information about non-classicality of quantum systems, describes quantum chaos and is the starting point of the quantum kinetic theory. In this realm, abelian and non-abelian gauge symmetries are introduced with the concept of quasi-amplitude of probability. This leads, for instance, to Symplectic Schrödinger, Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations dealing with systems in condensed matter and particle physics. These achievements are depicted here, following a pedagogical model of presentation.
