Since project management offices began to appear in organizations over the last decade, project management practitioners and their organizations have been asking how to structure project management offices (PMOs) and what functions to assign them. In The Project Management Office (PMO): A Quest For Understanding, authors Brian Hobbs and Monique Aubry address these questions, providing a look at how PMOs exist today, and some clues about how and why they're changing. Of particular interest to practitioners, the authors address the roles that PMOs play in organizations, which provides valuable insights for better creating, structuring and governing PMOs. When designing a PMO, an organization has a variety of choices regarding the PMO's structure and role assignment. By providing a way to define PMOs by type, this research explores how to set up and define a PMO, depending upon the specific type of PMO The authors discuss the many bases for the types of PMOs, including structural characteristics and functions, and how these types affect the PMO's role in the organization.

Strategic Project Risk Appraisal And Management written by Elaine Harris and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-05-15 with Business & Economics categories.

Success in business depends on two broad management skills: 'doing the right thing' (choosing the right projects) and 'doing things right' (good project management). This book examines the challenges that managers face in assessing the likely risks and benefits that need to be taken into account when choosing projects. It then explores the strategic level risks that will need to be dealt with in managing those projects and suggests risk management strategies. In so doing, it makes a rare but important link between strategic level appraisal of project opportunities and project risk management. Many projects have similar characteristics that are common to a number of projects experienced by the same or other organizations. Elaine Harris shows how the use of a project typology can guide project risk management by identifying common risks shared by projects of each type. Her cutting edge research will help advanced project practitioners and researchers in projects and risk management to develop a risk management strategy that is better suited to the context of their projects and one that is flexible enough to develop and adapt once the project decision has been taken and the real-world of project management and delivery begins.

Leading Complex Projects written by Kaye Remington and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-22 with Business & Economics categories.

Leadership in projects has been under-represented in many of the most influential project methodologies, where the focus has been on management and process. The importance to project success of key roles such as project board member, executive sponsor, project manager, client representative or team leader, increases exponentially with the scale and complexity of the project. Kaye Remington's Leading Complex Projects draws on original, empirical research into successful leadership of complex projects, including 70 in-depth interviews with people, across a broad range of industries, selected for their roles in guiding complex projects towards successful outcomes. The book, structured around the major themes from the interviews, explains and applies emerging best-practice in a coherent and focused way. A potent combination of wisdom from leaders in practice and the latest knowledge from many fields of research will engage experienced practitioners, as well as those who are teaching and researching projects, complexity and leadership.

Organizations achieve project success by both doing the right projects and doing projects right. This article examines the relationship between using project categorization systems and achieving project success. In doing so, it defines the purpose of project categorization systems and describes the challenges in developing such systems. It also reviews the field's literature on categorizing projects. It then outlines this study's six-step methodology to develop a holistic project categorization system, a process that involved a literature survey, focus group meetings, and Web-based questionnaire. It analyzes the findings from both the focus group and the questionnaire; it evaluates the three multi-dimensional categorization systems that the studied organizations most use. It also explains why organizations and researchers use categorization systems; it suggests how organizations can evaluate and redesign their categorization systems.

* Joey F. George I was honored to be asked to open the VI Conference of the Italian Chapter of the Association for Information Systems (ItAIS), held in Olbia, on the Costa Smeralda of Sardinia, Italy, in October 2009. Over 90 research papers were presented over two days, and over 120 people attended the conference. Each day, five par- lel sessions featured papers on diverse information systems topics. Session themes included Information and Knowledge Management; Organizational Change and Impact of ICT; IS Quality, Metrics and Impact; E-Justice and Ethics of Information Systems; Information Systems Development and Design Methodo- gies; E-Services in Public and Private Sectors; Innovation Transfer of IT Research Projects; the Strategic Role of Information Systems; Accounting Management and Information Systems; Human Computer Interaction; and Emerging Issues in a Globalized and Interconnected World. The majority of attendees were from Italy, which would be expected for a meeting of the Italian Chapter of AIS. However, as much as 30% of participants came from elsewhere, from other parts of Europe to be sure, but also from as far away as Nigeria, Mexico and Australia. That the conference was so decidedly international provides support for the 2009 con- rence theme, “Achieving Fusion in the Interconnected World. ” Amid lively d- cussion and intellectual exchanges, professional networks were extended well beyond the Costa Smeralda and new connections and friendships were made.
