Have you ever wondered why a group of remarkable individual performers can get together and fail as a team? You can have all the talent in the world, but if individuals do not share common goals, coordinate their efforts, and trust one another to carry their share of the load, then you don’t have a team. So how does a team manager bridge this divide between individual performance and team performance? It turns out they construct that bridge on three simple building blocks: team alignment, team process, and team relationships.

Why is it some managers are so good at managing their teams and so good at managing individuals on their teams, yet productivity seems to lag below expectations? The likely suspect ... failure to proactively manage work processes. Workplace productivity is the by-product of many factors, but the two most important of those factors may be people and processes. We often shower managers with resources to build their people management skills yet provide little in the way of building their process management skills. This book is about balancing the scales and treating the efficacy of work processes as the natural counterpart to excellent people management. With some thoughtful attention to the way our processes are constructed and some well-placed preventative and contingent measures, all of us, with the help of our teams, can thoughtfully manage process and improve team performance. Prevention and Contingences: A Manager’s Guide to Process Management is your step-by-step manual for keeping your work processes tuned-up and operating at full capacity.

There’s an epidemic of leadership failure—whether something as small as a meeting, or as large as implementing enterprise wide change. Leaders know that sinking feeling when a gap emerges between themselves and the groups they most need to engage with. Leaders and business schools are looking in the wrong places for the cause. What holds most leaders back, as if their foot is always on the brake, is their failure to engage, and gain alignment. This book shows the reasons why. Leaders rarely recognise that: Shaping group behavior is describable as a process, which they can learn. Instead, they unconsciously fall into relationship patterns influenced by early family experiences. Informal relationship patterns have a dramatic effect on results, which is why birds in flight manage to alter course without bumping into each other. Leadership and collaboration are primarily a matter of principles and process, and not personality and content alone. If leaders master the process, they achieve consistent results. This book reveals the leadership levers to release the power of relationships for exceptional participation, alignment and results in organizations. It enables leaders to mine the brilliance that often lies dormant and untapped within their organizations. Readers will have the principles and tools to go beyond the agenda, truly engage with those around them, and release untapped capacities within their organizations. These qualities and skills will inspire associates and employees.

Effects Of Priming And Work Relationship On Linguistic Alignment In Computer Mediated Communication And Human Computer Interaction written by Jiang Hu and has been published by Stanford University this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with categories.

People engaged in a conversation tend to express themselves in similar ways by using comparable or identical words, phrases, sentence structures, accent, speech rate, etc. This process and end results are termed "linguistic alignment, " and have also been observed in both computer-mediated communication (CMC) and human-computer interaction (HCI). Many researchers have demonstrated that linguistic alignment can be easily induced through priming, while others focus on the social aspect of linguistic alignment. Moreover, previous research work on linguistic alignment mostly focused on conversation within dyads. In this dissertation, I report two experimental studies that, in the context of a triadic conference chat setting, investigated the co-presence of alignment as a result of priming and alignment attributable to difference in work relationship (cooperation vs. competition). Similarities and differences observed in the HCI and CMC conditions were also examined. Results show that priming is a strong predictor of alignment even when interlocutors do not directly communicate with each other, but work relationship between interlocutors and communication type (i.e., HCI vs. CMC) could also sway the degree of alignment. Additionally, the priming effect on certain stylistic dimensions (e.g., vocabulary complexity) lasted relatively longer than the effect on other features (e.g., capitalization). As a whole, the dissertation proposes a holistic way of examining and understanding linguistic alignment, and offers researchers a new methodology utilizing realistic user contexts and tasks to study human language behaviors in general and those specific to HCI and CMC.

Alignment written by Robert S. Kaplan and has been published by Harvard Business Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-02-23 with Business & Economics categories.

Most organizations consist of multiple business and support units, each populated by highly trained, experienced executives. But often the efforts of individual units are not coordinated, resulting in conflicts, lost opportunities, and diminished performance. Robert S. Kaplan and David P. Norton argue that the responsibility for this critical alignment lies with corporate headquarters. In this book, the authors apply their revolutionary Balanced Scorecard management system to corporate-level strategy, revealing how highly successful enterprises achieve powerful synergies by explicitly defining corporate headquarters’ role in setting, coordinating, and overseeing organizational strategy. Based on extensive field research in organizations worldwide, Alignment shows how companies can build an enterprise-level Strategy Map and Balanced Scorecard that clearly articulate the “enterprise value proposition”: how the enterprise creates value above that achieved by individual business units operating alone. The book provides case studies, actionable frameworks, and sample scorecards that show how to align business and support units, boards of directors, and external partners with the corporate strategy and create a governance process that will ensure that alignment is sustained. The next breakthrough in strategy execution from the field’s premier thinkers, Alignment shows how today’s companies can unlock unrealized value from enterprise synergies.
