Wie und warum besuchen Menschen Ausstellungen über die DDR? Anhand qualitativer Interviews mit Besucher*innen von fünf ausgewählten DDR-Museen beleuchtet Julian Genten Praktiken des Museumsbesuchs. Er argumentiert für eine Verankerung qualitativer Forschungsansätze in der Besucher*innenforschung und unternimmt eine Verzahnung von Ausstellungs- und Rezeptionsanalyse, um Prozesse der musealen Bedeutungsproduktion machtkritisch zu beschreiben. Dabei zeigt sich, wie prägend die eigene Lebenswelt, Erinnerungen und soziale Faktoren für die Ausstellungsrezeption sind - und wie beschränkt der Einfluss des Museums auf die Sinnbildungsprozesse seiner Besucher*innen ist. Kurz gesagt: Menschen erzählen sich in Ausstellungen ihre eigenen Geschichten.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2004 im Fachbereich Ethnologie / Volkskunde, Note: 1,0, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Veranstaltung: Proseminar, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Vor ca. 30 Jahren begann die Diskussion um die Darstellung von Alltagskultur und Geschichte im Museum. Obwohl viel Kritik geäußert wurde und viele Vorschläge gemacht wurden, scheitern viele Museen daran die Theorie in die Praxis umzusetzen. In meiner Arbeit werde ich die Ausstellung im Freiburger Stadtmuseum Wentzingerhaus näher betrachten. Dabei werde ich der Frage nachgehen, in wie weit theoretische Ansätze dort umgesetzt bzw. thematisiert werden. Ich habe mich für das Wentzingerhaus entschieden, da es Exponate aus der gesamten Freiburger Geschichte seit dem Mittelalter zeigt. Es ist ein historisches Museum und konzentriert sich auf die Politikgeschichte der Stadt. Doch es gibt auch kulturhistorische Aspekte, die nachfolgend näher beleuchtet werden sollen. Zuerst werde ich die Geschichte der Heimat- und Stadtmuseen in Kürze darstellen. Im darauffolgendem Kapitel skizziere ich die Kontroverse über die Problematik von Ausstellungen über Geschichte und Alltag im Museum. Im zweiten Teil der Arbeit steht das Freiburger Stadtmuseum im Mittelpunkt. Ich werde es vorstellen und die Dauerausstellung kurz beschreiben. Danach werde ich anhand der Kritik, die ich im dritten Kapitel zusammengefasst habe, auf Details der Ausstellung eingehen, die ich für relevant halte. Zuletzt werde ich eine Kritik der Ausstellung und mein Fazit vortragen.
