This carefully crafted ebook: "ULYSSES (Modern Classics Series)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Ulysses is a modernist novel by Irish writer James Joyce. It is considered to be one of the most important works of modernist literature, and has been called "a demonstration and summation of the entire movement". Ulysses chronicles the peripatetic appointments and encounters of Leopold Bloom in Dublin in the course of an ordinary day, 16 June 1904. Ulysses is the Latinised name of Odysseus, the hero of Homer's epic poem Odyssey, and the novel establishes a series of parallels between its characters and events and those of the poem (the correspondence of Leopold Bloom to Odysseus, Molly Bloom to Penelope, and Stephen Dedalus to Telemachus). Joyce divided Ulysses into 18 chapters or "episodes". At first glance much of the book may appear unstructured and chaotic; Joyce once said that he had "put in so many enigmas and puzzles that it will keep the professors busy for centuries arguing over what I meant", which would earn the novel "immortality". James Joyce (1882-1941) was an Irish novelist and poet, considered to be one of the most influential writers in the modernist avant-garde of the early 20th century. Joyce is best known for Ulysses, the short-story collection Dubliners, and the novels A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Finnegans Wake.

This compelling autobiography narrates the story of immigration rights activist Mary Antin, and her enlightening journey from early life in Russia to her migration and Americanisation in late nineteenth-century USA. The Promised Land is an introspective first-hand account of life as a Jewish American immigrant. Mary Antin was just 12-years-old when she arrived in Boston with her family and she underwent a great deal of change and development before she could call the USA her home. Antin’s autobiography details how the young Jewish girl escaped Czarist Russia and adapted to an entirely new culture and lifestyle. Antin explores her memories of public school and accompanies powerful historical context with hard-hitting political commentary. The Promised Land is one person’s story, but speaks for the millions who have had all too similar experiences. This gripping volume includes fascinating chapters such as: - Children of the Law - Daily Bread - The Exodus - The Initiation - ‘My Country’ - A Child’s Paradise Now in a new edition, Read & Co. Books have republished this illuminating autobiography for a new generation of readers. The Promised Land is a great read for those interested in the history of immigration rights and for fans of Mary Antin’s work.

The Garden Without Walls written by Coningsby Dawson and has been published by Good Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05-20 with Fiction categories.

The Garden Without Walls explores the story of a reserved young man, Dante Cardover, and his struggles to find true love. Dante was brought up with a Puritan mindset. Early in life, he lost his mother and rarely communicated with his distant father. The author presents Dante as a shy, introverted man who suppressed his feelings to the extent that it kept him from finding love. As the story moves forward, three entirely distinct women offer him different kinds of love. Ruthita is his childhood friend. Fiesole is a great flirt with profound ideals of her own. Vi Carpenter is Dante's soulmate, but a barrier exists between them. The author did an excellent job giving all the women independence and not making them appear merely for Cardover to pick and choose. The book beautifully delivers a take on the wisdom and misunderstandings of youth. It covers various events in Dante's life, including his school days to his days at Oxford, his relationship with his father, and his encounters with women. It is an incredibly written story with a delightful plot and unique characters that will please the reader of any kind.

My Remarkable Uncle written by Stephen Leacock and has been published by New Canadian Library this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-08-03 with Fiction categories.

This celebrated collection of sketches sparkles with Stephen Leacock’s humour and shines with the warmth of his wit. The comical E.P., star of the title essay, “My Remarkable Uncle,” is a classic Leacock character. He is president of a railway with a letterhead but no rails, and he heads a bank that boasts credit but no cash whatsoever – all of which trouble E.P. not in the least. My Remarkable Uncle, a wonderful smorgasbord of mirth served up by a master of comedy, includes several essays, a short story, a political parable, and personal reflections on a dizzying array of subjects. Here, in rich abundance, are the inspired nonsense and the unerring eye for human folly that have made Stephen Leacock Canada’s most celebrated humorist.
