Of the German Protestant missionaries in Tanzania, Lutheran or Moravian, none was as famous as Bruno Gutmann, who worked among the Chagga from 1902 – 1938, and only World War prevented him and his wife to live there for the rest of their lives (they had already prepared their burial place among the Chagga). When I did my research there in the early 1970s, I was told that he spoke the Chagga language better than any Chagga, and when reading the three big volumes about the boys’ initiation teaching (parallel in Chagga and German), I believed it. The Chagga honoured him as their Father (Wasahuye O Wachagga) in 1963, and 50 years later the memory is still strong. In Germany his missiological ideas with the value attached to the primal ties of family, neighbourhood and age- group were controversial. In 2016 the Lutheran Leipzig Mission honoured the 50 th anniversary of his death with an academic colloquium, the texts generated by it make up this volume.

Yolande Mukagasana is a Rwandan nurse and mother of three children who likes wearing jeans and designer glasses. She runs her own clinic in Nyamirambo and is planning a party for her wedding anniversary. But when genocide starts everything changes. Targeted because she’s a successful woman and a Tutsi, she flees for her life. This gripping memoir describes the betrayal of friends and help that comes from surprising places. Quick-witted and courageous, Yolande never loses hope she will find her children alive. "This book was one of the first literary testimonies that I read in French about Rwanda. I found it profoundly moving — both realistic and introspective. Thanks to this beautiful translation, it is at long last available to the English-speaking public." Véronique Tadjo "Reading Yolande Mukagasana’s book in French at the age of fifteen changed my life. I realized that genocide is not a mass crime but a single murder repeated hundreds of thousands of times. With this testimony the genocide is no longer just a historical event, it is instead the story of a woman, a mother, a Tutsi. And this is what makes Yolande’s account universal." Gaël Faye

Teaching And Learning For Change written by Ingrid Schudel and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021 with Curriculum change categories.

Like many national curricula around the world, South Africa's curriculum is rich in environment and sustainability content. Despite this, environmental teaching and learning can be challenging for educators. This comes at a time when Sustainable Development Goal 4 via Target 4.7 requires governments to integrate Education for Sustainable Development into national education systems. Teaching and Learning for Change is an exploration of how teachers and teacher educators engage environment and sustainability content knowledge, methods, and assessment practices - an exposition of quality education processes in support of ecological and social justice and sustainability. The chapters evolve from a ten-year research programme led out of the DSI/NRF SARChI Chair in Global Change and Social Learning Systems working with national partners in the Fundisa for Change programme and the UNESCO Sustainability Starts with Teachers programme. They show the integration of education for sustainable development in teacher professional development and curricula in schools in South Africa. They reveal how university-based researchers, teachers and teacher educators have made theoretically and contextually reasoned choices about their lives and their teaching in response to calls for a more sustainable world in which education must play a role. Teaching and Learning for Change will be of interest to education policymakers in government, advisors and educators in educational and environmental departments, NGOs and other institutions. It will also be of interest to teacher educators, teachers and researchers in education more generally, and environment and sustainability education specifically.--

Forty years later when he published Blantyre Mission: Nkhani za Chiyambi Chake (Hetherwick Press, 1951), he became Malawi's first church historian. Going beyond recounting facts, he offered his own distinctive analysis, which remains highly relevant to church and nation today. Some people often ignore the fact that writers respond to the HIV/AIDS pandemic by using it as a theme in their poetry, fiction, and plays. Steve Chimombo started recording the writers’ responses as early as 1990 and wrote ‘AIDS and the Writer’ in WASI: the magazine for the arts. The article reported the results of a poetry competition organized by the Ministry of Health on the theme, and there have been other competitions also by different institutions since then. Some radio and television programs have also called upon the writer to help in the dissemination of information to their listeners. The Hyena Wears Darkness is the author’s own contribution to the national Malawian campaign to educate the public on the pandemic. Its focus is on those cultural practices which help propagate HIV/AIDS in Malawian society.

In Christian history spiritual awakenings are a recurring and important phenomenon. The Blantyre Spiritual Awakening was characterized by an overt evangelistic fervour among bands of people that belonged to an ever growing Born Again Movement in the city, from 1974 into the 1980s. This history covers The Blantyre Awakening which revived Evangelical Christianity in Malawi and prepared the way for the emerging Charismatic Movement.
