Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Denn der unaufhaltsame, sich von Tag zu Tag beschleunigende Verfall der Bevölkerung, die Überalterung unserer Gesellschaft, die graue Revolution wird das Antlitz Europas stärker verändern als die französische, die russische oder die osteuropäische Revolution, wird größere gesellschaftliche Veränderungen anrichten als der Erste und Zweite Weltkrieg zusammen (Tichy, 2001). Dieses Zitat ist nur eines von vielen, welche den demografischen Wandel in beinahe apokalyptischer Weise beschreiben. Ein Wandel, welcher sich bereits jetzt vollzieht und sich in Zukunft verstärken wird. Die Bevölkerung Deutschlands altert und wird in Zukunft zunehmend altern. Ausgelöst durch Geburtenzahlen, Rentenprojektionen, sowie Literatur und Berichterstattung oben aufgezeigter Art, gerät das Phänomen Alterung der Gesellschaft zunehmend in den Fokus des öffentlichen Interesses. Dabei wird meist ein pessimistisches Bild über das Altern der Bevölkerung dargestellt. Der aus der Alterung resultierende Verfall unserer Kultur und Gesellschaft wird als feststehendes Ereignis prophezeit nicht als Herausforderung. Ziel der hier vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, dem Leser ein umfassendes Bild über den demografischen Wandel und den sich hieraus ergebenden Folgen und Herausforderungen an Kultur und Gesellschaft zu vermitteln. Anspruch der Arbeit ist es, die tief greifenden Veränderungen und Folgen unter objektiver Betrachtung darzustellen, ohne dass persönliche Meinungen des Verfassers Einfluss nehmen. Hiermit soll dem Leser keine positive oder negative Meinung über die demografische Entwicklung suggeriert werden. Es wird eine Vorstellung der durch demografische Prozesse hervorgerufenen gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen vermittelt, jedoch kein generelles und abschließendes Urteil des Autors. Basierend auf Literatur der Demografie, Soziologie, Gerontologie und weiteren Wissenschaftsdisziplinen sollen die Wandelungen unserer Gesellschaft aufgezeigt werden, die mit dem demografischen Alterungsprozess einhergehen.
