This open access book serves as a comprehensive exploration of Alternating Current Field Measurement (ACFM), encompassing the foundational theory crucial for subsequent chapters, as well as the design and testing of ACFM probes, instruments, and software. Providing guidance and serving as a reference for ACFM instrument development, the text delves into visualization research in ACFM, offering valuable insights for technical engineering applications. Nondestructive testing (NDT) emerges as a pivotal method for detecting and assessing defects, offering support for safety pre-warning and maintenance decisions in industrial structures. Originating from the 1980s, the demand for an NDT technique arose to inspect fatigue cracks at welded intersections in offshore underwater structures in the North Sea. Conventional NDT methods proved impractical in this distinct underwater environment with quantitative evaluation requirements, prompting the development of the ACFM technique by researchers in the mechanical engineering department at University College London. Over the past four decades, ACFM's theory model, inspection methods, and equipment have undergone rapid advancements, gaining widespread utilization in ocean engineering, the power industry, rail traffic, and special equipment fields. This book encompasses diverse facets, including the global development history of alternating current field measurement technology, core basic theory, signal processing methods, probe instrument development, standardization construction, and engineering applications. Serving as a valuable learning reference for students and offering fundamental theoretical guidance for scientific researchers, it also provides case introductions for engineering applications. The book aims to propel both theoretical research and practical applications of alternating current field measurement technology, contributing significantly to its popularization and widespread application.

This open access book can be divided into three parts. In part 1, three articles are employed to introduce the RACFM technology. In part 2, two articles are introduced to explain the Multifrequency ACFM. In part 3, three articles are introduced to explain the visualization research in ACFM. With the development of ACFM detection technology, traditional single excitation frequency and single direction excitation structures cannot meet the requirements of multiple types of defect detection (such as cracks at different angles, and buried defects). New types of excitation structures and methods have been proposed, mainly including rotating electromagnetic field detection, multi-frequency detection, and defects visual algorithm. The changes in the excitation structure and signal mentioned above have expanded the scope of application of ACFM detection and provided opportunities for the cross-integration and innovation of ACFM detection technology with other advanced detection methods. This book mainly focuses on the study of the rotating alternating current field measurement (RACFM), the multifrequency ACFM, and the visualization method in ACFM.

Ageing And Life Extension Of Offshore Structures written by Gerhard Ersdal and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02-04 with Technology & Engineering categories.
A comprehensive overview of managing and assessing safety and functionality of ageing offshore structures and pipelines A significant proportion, estimated at over 50%, of the worldwide infrastructure of offshore structures and pipelines is in a life extension phase and is vulnerable to ageing processes. This book captures the central elements of the management of ageing offshore structures and pipelines in the life extension phase. The book gives an overview of: the relevant ageing processes and hazards; how ageing processes are managed through the life cycle, including an overview of structural integrity management; how an engineer should go about assessing a structure that is to be operated beyond its original design life, and how ageing can be mitigated for safe and effective continued operation. Key Features: Provides an understanding of ageing processes and how these can be mitigated. Applies engineering methods to ensure that existing structures can be operated longer rather than decommissioned unduly prematurely. Helps engineers performing these tasks in both evaluating the existing structures and maintaining ageing structures in a safe manner. The book gives an updated summary of current practice and research on the topic of the management of ageing structures and pipelines in the life extension phase but also meets the needs of structural engineering students and practicing offshore and structural engineers in oil & gas and engineering companies. In addition, it should be of value to regulators of the offshore industry.

Special issue of the Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, May/June 2003, Volume 15, Issue 3. This special issue contains 11 papers presentingØØthe latest developments in the practical application of nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques to civil engineering materials and structures. Modern civil engineering structures incorporate complicated multimaterial components that require special monitoring through sophisticated NDE, which must be drawn from a range of physical phenomena. With a focus on cutting-edge techniques, several papers deal with nondestructive void and corrosion detection of embedded post-tensioned cables on concrete elements. Other papers present research findings on NDE techniques for steel cables, early-age and mature reinforced-concrete elements, and fiber-composite sheets, where ultrasound, magnetism, infrared thermography, acoustic emission, and radar phenomena are applied.
