With "Opus Magnum" Althar succeeds in concluding his series of books on enlightenment and embodied ascension with no less than a thunderbolt! In his humorous and direct way, he takes the reader on a journey that finally brings to fruition his highest human potential: The realization of his true nature beyond all separation. Althar pays special attention to how the connection of an incarnated consciousness with matter comes about at the level of DNA, in order for a human to absolutely assume the belief of "being a body." It is precisely this belief that repeatedly pulls one back into the dream of separation, and thus makes a continual existence in enlightenment while embodied almost impossible. Overcoming this identification as a "body" is very delicate, and becomes all the more complicated by inner resistance and all sorts of interferences stemming from the macro and micro level of consciousness. Althar illuminates these in detail and sensitizes the reader to the challenges he may face along his journey. In retrospect, Aouwa explains how difficult it was to connect consciousness and matter in order to overcome the standstill of the Second Round of Creation. This required extremely drastic measures carried out by a group called Uru, a branch of the Uriel family. Uru accompanies all the messages as a profound guest and is joined by Ila, the Unborn Goddess of Feminine Beingness. Due to Uru's measures, significant side effects came about - namely the paralyzing feelings of fear, guilt, and shame. Accompanied by the compassionate, radiant presence of Ila, Althar and Aouwa prepare the reader for the enormity of facing these intensive feelings, and repeatedly expose the illusionary nature of all obstacles. Deepening and expanding upon the previously presented light body exercise, Althar advises the reader how this practice of "not-doing" eliminates all feelings of lack. In addition, he introduces an extension of the exercise that gently releases the consciousness hypnotically interwoven with DNA, and dissolves the identification with the body. As his grand finale, Althar discusses the potentially overwhelming consequences of completely letting go of the belief in separation. This naturally leads to the "Opus Magnum," the Great Work - the inner transformation of the human self into divine beingness, which is also known as embodied ascension. Displays of devout religious faith are very much in evidence in nineteenth-century sentimental novels such as Uncle Tom's Cabin and Little Women, but the precise theological nature of this piety has been little examined. In the first dedicated study of the religious contents of sentimental literature, Claudia Stokes counters the long-standing characterization of sentimental piety as blandly nondescript and demonstrates that these works were in fact groundbreaking, assertive, and highly specific in their theological recommendations and endorsements. The Altar at Home explores the many religious contexts and contents of sentimental literature of the American nineteenth century, from the growth of Methodism in the Second Great Awakening and popular millennialism to the developing theologies of Mormonism and Christian Science. Through analysis of numerous contemporary religious debates, Stokes demonstrates how sentimental writers, rather than offering simple depictions of domesticity, instead manipulated these scenes to advocate for divergent new beliefs and bolster their own religious authority. On the one hand, the comforting rhetoric of domesticity provided a subtle cover for sentimental writers to advance controversial new beliefs, practices, and causes such as Methodism, revivalism, feminist theology, and even the legitimacy of female clergy. On the other hand, sentimentality enabled women writers to bolster and affirm their own suitability for positions of public religious leadership, thereby violating the same domestic enclosure lauded by the texts. The Altar at Home offers a fascinating new historical perspective on the dynamic role sentimental literature played in the development of innumerable new religious movements and practices, many of which remain popular today.

Prominently located on the Arx, the northern summit of the Capitoline hill, S. Maria in Aracoeli is the most significant medieval church of Rome to survive to the present day. Second major church of the Lesser Brothers or fratres minores in the Italian peninsula, and Roman headquarters of the Order, the Aracoeli played a vital role in the interaction between the Franciscans and the papacy, the friars and the laity, and the religious and civic authorities, as reflected in its art and architecture. On the basis of an interdisciplinary approach combining archaeological analysis with the finding of new archival evidence, reinterpretation of documents and literary and epigraphic sources, this book offers a reconstruction of the original church, its monuments and its Benedictine as well as eighth/ninth-century predecessors, which differs radically from earlier hypotheses. This reassessment in turn allows the author to revisit a number of major questions, including the Franciscans’ physical and theoretical appropriation of the past, the adaptation of an ancient site by a ‘modern’ religious order, the use and functions of space, the interaction between friars, laity and artists, and the contribution of the Roman Franciscans to the development of Marian devotion, thus shedding new light on the social, political and religious history of late-medieval Italy and its impact beyond the peninsula, from England to Bohemia and the Holy Land.

The studies included in this volume supplement the work already published by the author on the imperial cult in the Roman West, focussing on the monuments of two cities in Roman Spain, Augusta Emerita (now M da) and Tarraco (now Tarragona). The introduction gives the general background and context of the four following studies and argues in favour of proactive initiative from the centre.The core of the book is a study of the provincial forum at Augusta Emerita. It opens with a historiographic survey followed by discussion of the plaza (location, portico, "Arco de Trajano"), then surveys other structures and their general architectonic significance. Discussion of the hexastyle temple at the centre of the precinct considers its date of construction and the influence of the provincial governor, L. Fulcinius Trio, in copying the Aedes Concordiae at Rome. Two long sections assigned to analysis of inscriptions and the significance of the provincial centre of Lusitania complete the study.Discussion of the "Temple of Augustus" in Tarragona, in Chapter 3, begins with a historiography of the temple followed by an account of its discovery by ground-probing radar and electric resistivity tomography.
