One recent December, at age 53, John Kralik found his life at a terrible, frightening low: his small law firm was failing; he was struggling through a painful second divorce; he had grown distant from his two older children and was afraid he might lose contact with his young daughter; he was living in a tiny apartment where he froze in the winter and baked in the summer; he was 40 pounds overweight; his girlfriend had just broken up with him; and overall, his dearest life dreams--including hopes of upholding idealistic legal principles and of becoming a judge--seemed to have slipped beyond his reach. Then, during a desperate walk in the hills on New Year's Day, John was struck by the belief that his life might become at least tolerable if, instead of focusing on what he didn't have, he could find some way to be grateful for what he had. Inspired by a beautiful, simple note his ex-girlfriend had sent to thank him for his Christmas gift, John imagined that he might find a way to feel grateful by writing thank-you notes. To keep himself going, he set himself a goal--come what may--of writing 365 thank-you notes in the coming year. One by one, day after day, he began to handwrite thank yous--for gifts or kindnesses he'd received from loved ones and coworkers, from past business associates and current foes, from college friends and doctors and store clerks and handymen and neighbors, and anyone, really, absolutely anyone, who'd done him a good turn, however large or small. Immediately after he'd sent his very first notes, significant and surprising benefits began to come John's way--from financial gain to true friendship, from weight loss to inner peace. While John wrote his notes, the economy collapsed, the bank across the street from his office failed, but thank-you note by thank-you note, John's whole life turned around. 365 Thank Yous is a rare memoir: its touching, immediately accessible message--and benefits--come to readers from the plainspoken storytelling of an ordinary man. Kralik sets a believable, doable example of how to live a miraculously good life. To read 365 Thank Yous is to be changed.

A proven powerful way to increase your happiness and become more joyful is to feel deeply grateful for what you have. When you feel truly thankful, your outlook becomes more cheerful and optimistic; your attitude becomes more positive and confident. Your inner being radiates love because you love your life, thereby increasing your self-esteem. And as your self-esteem increases, people will be attracted to you because they see and feel your cheerfulness and optimism. Furthermore, as you feel increasingly grateful over time, this attracts even more blessings to you! When you feel deeply thankful for these new blessings, your appreciation becomes even stronger, attracting still more blessings. This is not to say you won't experience difficult times. You will. Life is not easy and can be extremely painful. It's very hard to feel grateful when tragedy strikes. But it is not impossible. If you are constantly focused on feeling grateful, even for the smallest things, the difficult times will be easier to handle. Likewise, feeling grateful for what you don't have is also very powerful and beneficial. For example, if God forbid, your brother has died, this can be terribly upsetting and painful. But you can feel very grateful that you don't have a life-threatening disease, that you don't live in a city that has been completely destroyed, that you don't have to take the bus because you can't afford to repair your car, that you are not homeless and living on the street with just the clothes on your back and no friends who can help you. It may sound cliche, but this does not take away from the fact that no matter how bad your situation is, there are always people whose situations are much worse. If you are 13 or older, you can greatly benefit from answering the three easy questions contained on each page of this interactive journal. Writing for five minutes a day for six months, your feelings of thankfulness will increase dramatically. Answering the questions will not only become a pleasant habit. You'll actually look forward to it as a fun high point of your day! Moreover, as you answer the three questions daily, you'll begin exploring what makes you joyful and what inspires you and lifts you up. This will be of great help to you as you clearly see what you need to do to be joyful on a daily basis. This will be especially important for those times when you feel down and discouraged. You'll be able to read and ultimately remember the most meaningful answers to the questions. You can then attain instant happiness, or at the very least be happier than you were, when you ACT on your answers. The more grateful you feel, the happier and more joyful you will be. Instead of sadly feeling "I wish I had..." which affirms a belief of "lacking," you'll happily feel, "I'm glad I have..." which affirms a belief of "having." Your being thankful and your belief of "having" can have a powerful influence on how you think from day to day. Negative thoughts constantly bombard the mind. But focusing on feeling deeply grateful can counteract such thoughts. Replacing negative thoughts with the power of gratefulness takes practice, but answering the three questions daily will help you! And, not only can it reduce your stress; it can also positively impact your health.Conversely, it is impossible to be truly happy if you don't feel grateful. You can keep your answers private: no one has to know you're doing this. Or you can share this with whomever you wish. It's totally up to you. This 188 page book is very easy to read and is written in attractive calligraphy. In addition to the three questions, there are five excellent quotations on the back cover about the power of feeling grateful. My book can be given as a high quality gift. The recipient will appreciate it! This is especially true if the person enjoys or may enjoy journal writing, and wants to greatly improve his/her life. People need and want happiness in their lives.

Gratitude, like other positive emotions, has inspired many theological and philosophical writings, but it has inspired very little vigorous, empirical research. In an effort to remedy this oversight, this volume brings together prominent scientists from various disciplines to examine what has become known as the most-neglected emotion. The volume begins with the historical, philosophical, and theoretical foundations of gratitude, then presents the current research perspectives from social, personality, and developmental psychology, as well as from primatology, anthropology, and biology. The volume also includes a comprehensive, annotated bibliography of research on gratitude. This work contributes a great deal to the growing positive psychology initiative and to the scientific investigation of positive human emotions. It will be an invaluable resource for researchers and students in social, personality, and developmental, clinical, and health psychology, as well as to sociologists and cultural anthropologists.

It S All God The Flowers And The Fertilizer written by Walter Starcke and has been published by eBookIt.com this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-02-01 with Religion categories.

In his best-selling classic, It's All God, modern mystic, Walter Starcke bridges the gap between our humanity and Divinity, as well as our traditional limited perspectives and our emerging Cosmic Consciousness. With the insight of a biblical scholar, Starcke clarifies the foundational Truths of our Judeo-Christian tradition, as he takes humanity's spiritual roots forward into the light of the new state of human consciousness that is emerging today. His masterful knowledge of Scriptures unlocks the truths laid out in both the Old and New Testament not found in other metapshyical books. Starcke calls us to no longer separate God from our humanity and the world. With this awareness we understand that the teachings of Jesus have not been fully realized until now as humanity begins the new cycle of the Age of the Gods. The awareness that It's All God is a requirement for living fully in this new Age of the Gods, which is this Golden Cycle we have just begun. Starcke wrote that, "we have been given all the pieces, each necessary, none missing, and if we want to complete the picture it is up to us to stop excluding those parts of ourselves and of our feelings that we have thought did not belong in the picture. If God is truly the only Power and Presence, then every piece, no matter how seemingly negative, insignificant, or inappropriate, has a purpose. Instead of discarding those aspects of ourselves that seem faulty or unworthy, when we stop judging them and see what they are telling us, we can find a right place for those energies and then we can complete the puzzle." In Part One his in-depth knowledge takes us from the traditional approach through the Gnostics, to clear in-sights on the teachings of Jesus and Paul. Uniquely Starcke relates these teachings to modern Quantum Physics and the evolution of Consciousness. Starcke is not only a Biblical scholar, but also well versed in the workings of consciousness, perceptions, and reality. Part One also includes Starcke's marvelous mystical insights and meditations. In Part Two of It's All God, Starcke gives us the "how to's" of practical mysticism to apply Divine Truth to our daily lives. No matter where a reader is on the path, he will find the steps to greater awareness and the clarification of the puzzle humanity has been working on for countless lifetimes. "We are all on the right path at the right time. The time is Now." These how to's are not superficial, they require that we come to understand our True Self and live the Truth of our Being. In part three Starcke takes us beyond our customary perspective into the realms of Higher Consciousness. These take us clearly into the new cycle, The Age of the Gods. The realization that It's All God is the key to spiritual healing, true transformative forgiveness, and the daily expression of our Divine humanity. It is a book whose time has come. We are now ready as never before to delve into it's insights and live it's Truths. It's All God is required reading for many ministerial programs and should now be require reading for us all to live fully during this new cycle far beyond 2012. Starcke was not only ahead of his time, but a master for all Ages with tools for the rest of our journey in awareness as we live fully as Divine Humans.

Being Grateful written by David Tuffley and has been published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-01-27 with categories.

Gratitude - how do we define it? Gratitude is when you feel a strong sense of appreciation for both the tangible and intangible aspects of your life and the world you live in. Coming from the Latin word gratia, for grace, gratitude is an elevated state of mind that is rightly called a state of grace. This book describes how you can dwell in this state of grace, and enjoy the many benefits that stem from it. When you live with an attitude of gratitude, you bring your inner world into harmony with your outer world, recognizing that so much of what nourishes and sustains you in life comes from a source beyond yourself. Gratitude makes you whole in the sense of making you feel part of something much bigger than yourself. The way that you view the world in which you find yourself is always under your control, regardless of how much it might seem others are in control. An optimist sees it one way, a pessimist a quite different way; same situation, two different perceptions. An attitude of gratitude is an essentially optimistic one in which you are in the daily habit of noticing that there is always something good, something of benefit to be found in any situation. It may not be what you want, but you understand that it is what you need in order to grow into a fuller expression of yourself. The world is providing for your needs, not pandering to your wants. This providential view of the world, and the appreciation that goes along with it, allows you to mentally connect with something larger than yourself. This could be with the community that you live in, Nature or a Higher Power. By connecting with this external power, you are transcending your egoic self. Going beyond the ego and connecting with a larger reality outside of yourself is the source of your happiness. Gratitude has long been recognised by religions and philosophy as a desirable practice, but for many, the connection between gratitude and a sense of well-being is not an obvious one. This book seeks to remedy that, showing you how being grateful can lead you to a deeper sense of satisfaction with your life; something which escapes many people in this age of entitlement, where a culture of complaint creates the opposite of gratitude. This is not to suggest that you should accept second or third-class service without a murmur. You can still point out where deficiencies exist and have them remedied without losing your positive attitude. The recognition of the power of gratitude by modern Psychology has been a long time coming. Historically, conventional psychology focuses on what is wrong with a person rather than what is right. Today, a growing body of research indicates that people with higher levels of gratitude also experience higher levels of subjective well-being and resilience. In other words, you can be happier and less depressed, even when your circumstances are quite modest because you have learned to notice and appreciate the good that is present in every situation. With the incidence of depression in the developed world at an all-time high, this is good news for anyone who struggles with the black dog of depression. The practice of gratitude also helps you in a general way to deal more resiliently with the set-backs that life serves up. It can give you a sense of control over how you feel about those events. You cannot always control events or what other people do, but you can control how you react them, choosing to think in positive, life-affirming ways that can lead you to feel strong and purposeful. Gratitude is an idea that has come full circle. The Roman philosopher Cicero believed that gratitude is not only the greatest of the virtues but the parent of all others. More recently the positive psychology movement in has come to embrace this idea in the 21st Century.

The Homework Myth written by Alfie Kohn and has been published by Da Capo Lifelong Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-04-03 with Education categories.

Death and taxes come later; what seems inevitable for children is the idea that, after spending the day at school, they must then complete more academic assignments at home. The predictable results: stress and conflict, frustration and exhaustion. Parents respond by reassuring themselves that at least the benefits outweigh the costs. But what if they don't? In The Homework Myth, nationally known educator and parenting expert Alfie Kohn systematically examines the usual defenses of homework--that it promotes higher achievement, "reinforces" learning, and teaches study skills and responsibility. None of these assumptions, he shows, actually passes the test of research, logic, or experience. So why do we continue to administer this modern cod liver oil -- or even demand a larger dose? Kohn's incisive analysis reveals how a mistrust of children, a set of misconceptions about learning, and a misguided focus on competitiveness have all left our kids with less free time and our families with more conflict. Pointing to parents who have fought back -- and schools that have proved educational excellence is possible without homework -- Kohn shows how we can rethink what happens during and after school in order to rescue our families and our children's love of learning.
