School shootings - colloquially referred to as school rampages - represent a rare but serious form of targeted violence in schools. This book first presents the causes discussed in current scientific research. In addition to perpetrator characteristics, emphasis is placed on the private and school environment, the influence of mass media, accessibility to weapons, and the consumption of violent media. Secondly, primary and secondary preventive measures are presented, such as profiling, threat assessments and the phenomenon of leaking. And thirdly, the focus is on aftercare in school shootings, the aim of which is to cope with experienced psychotraumatic stress. Emergency psychological acute aids, short-term to medium-term, trauma-focused, as well as longer-term intervention measures for children, adolescents and adults are explained in more detail. Practical excursions on prevention as well as aftercare complement the corresponding chapters.

Sending your children to public school is equivalent to the worst form of child abuse; we disable our children by enabling them, allowing them to run amok through the hallways of our schools all in the name of self-esteem. Our children are doomed to a mediocre existence. The Worst Case of Child Abuse in American History: Your Public Schoolsis a book that reveals what is really taking place in our classrooms today, and academics is the last thing on the to-do list. According to the experts, "reading" is less relevant than the child's social calendar and could initiate anarchy in America. This book specifies these so-called experts' names, it is blunt and to the point.Years ago America's education leaders had an agenda for our education system, and they were warned by numerous knowledgeable specialists on the dangers of that agenda. Utilizing the research and facts of those specialists and my twenty-two years of experience teaching in the public school classroom, I expose the truth of why America's education system is decomposing at such an alarming rate.

The Fictional Dimension Of The School Shooting Discourse written by Silke Braselmann and has been published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-17 with Literary Criticism categories.

Ever since the 1990s, school shootings have shocked the public in their brutality, their suddenness, and their inexplicability. While film and literature have played a role in the heated debates about so-called copycat crimes, the growing body of fictionalizations of school shootings has been neglected thus far. However, in a discourse in which the boundaries between fiction and reality are increasingly blurred, this book shows how fiction shapes and structures, challenges and disrupts cultural processes of meaning-making. Hence, for a better understanding of the school shooting phenomenon, the relevance of fiction on all levels of discourse construction requires thorough analysis. This book therefore develops a new approach to the role of fiction for contemporary forms of excessive violence. By combining narrative theory with insights from sociology and other disciplines, it provides the means for apprehending and describing the relevance of fiction for contemporary discourses. Furthermore, it provides exemplary analyses of more specific functions of literary and filmic fictionalizations of school shootings between 2000 and 2016.

School shootings are a topic of research in a variety of different disciplines—from psychology, to sociology to criminology, pedagogy, and public health—each with their own set of theories. Many of these theories are logically interconnected, while some differ widely and seem incompatible with each other, leading to divergent results about potential means of prevention. In this innovative work, leading researchers on the topic of school shootings introduce their findings and theoretical concepts in one combined systematic volume. The contributions to this work highlight both the complementary findings from different fields, as well as cases where they diverge or contradict each other. The work is divided into four main sections: an overview of current theoretical approaches and empirical models; application of these theories to international cases, including Columbine (USA), Emsdetten (Germany), and Tuusula (Finland); a critique of the influence of the media, both in the portrayals of past events and its effect on future events; and finally an overview of existing models for prevention and intervention, and measures of their success. The result is a comprehensive source for current research on school shootings, and will provide a direction for future research.

Where Does Violence Come From written by Bernhard Bogerts and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-11 with Psychology categories.

Where does violence come from? How can people do such things? These are often the first questions that arise when we witness violence in the in the media or in real life. This book provides comprehensive answers by combining the explanatory approaches from criminology, sociology, psychology, psychiatry, brain research, genetics, pedagogy, historical sciences, and justice into a big, exciting, and comprehensible picture - in an entertaining way with current, state-of-the art science(s). Multiple case studies are presented that show us the frightening diversity of human violence: acts of violence by individual perpetrators; violence between groups; riots and tumults by gangs and hooligans; violent ethnic and religious conflicts; extreme violence in the form of amok and terror; and up to armed conflicts, pogroms, and genocide. Last but not least, the knowledge gained from this book can help answer another big question: how can violence be contained or even prevented? From the contents: How and where does violence originate in our brain? Why has a tendency towards violence become established as part of our behavioural repertoire in the development of humankind? What influences on personality development can lead to violent characters? How often is violence the product of a pathological psyche? Do genes play a role? Which social constellations contribute? What are the causes of rampage and terror? What is known about the relationship between religion and violence?
