Maria Grazia Cosima Deledda � nata a Nuoro, penultima di sei figli, in una famiglia benestante, il 27 settembre 1871. E' stata la seconda donna a vincere il Premio Nobel per la letteratura, nel 1926. Morir� a Roma, all'et� di 64 anni, il 15 agosto 1936.La narrativa della Deledda si basa su forti vicende d'amore, di dolore e di morte sulle quali aleggia il senso del peccato, della colpa, e la coscienza di una inevitabile fatalit�. � stata ipotizzata una somiglianza con il verismo di Giovanni Verga ma, a volte, anche con il decadentismo di Gabriele D'Annunzio, oltre alla scrittura di Lev Nikolaevic Tolstoj e di Honor� de Balzac di cui tra l'altro la Deledda tradusse in italiano l'Eugenia Grandet. Tuttavia la Deledda esprime una scrittura personale che affonda le sue radici nella conoscenza della cultura e della tradizione sarda, in particolare della Barbagia.Questo libro presenta due racconti sul tema della coppia e dell'amore, della tentazione, del peccato e del senso di colpa: "Amori moderni" e "Colomba".Nel libro la biografia dell'auttice ed una nota sulla sua poetica.Grazia Deledda Born in Nuoro, into a bourgeois family, September 27, 1871. She was a Italian writer whose works won her the Nobel Prize for Literature for 1926. She died in Rome at the age of 64, August 15, 1936.Deledda's whole work is based on strong facts of love, pain and death upon which rests the feeling of sin and of an inevitable fatality.In her works we can recognize the influence of the verism of Giovanni Verga and, sometimes, also that of the decadentism by Gabriele D'Annunzio.In Deledda's novels there is always a strong connection between places and people, feelings and environment. Her work has been highly regarded by Luigi Capuana and Giovanni Verga. The environment depicted is that one harsh of native Sardinia, but it is not depicted according to regional veristic schemes neither according to the otherworldly vision by D'Annunzio, but relived through the myth.In the book, a biography of the author.

Grazia Deledda, in lingua sarda, Gràssia o Gràtzia Deledda (1871 – 1936), è stata una scrittrice italiana, vincitrice del Premio Nobel per la letteratura 1926. È ricordata come la seconda donna, dopo la svedese Selma Lagerlöf, a ricevere questo riconoscimento, e la prima italiana. David Herbert Lawrence, nel 1928, dopo che Deledda aveva già vinto il Premio Nobel, scrive nell'Introduzione alla traduzione inglese del romanzo La Madre: «Ci vorrebbe uno scrittore veramente grande per farci superare la repulsione per le emozioni appena passate. Persino le Novelle di D'Annunzio sono al presente difficilmente leggibili: Matilde Serao lo è ancor meno. Ma noi possiamo ancora leggere Grazia Deledda, con interesse genuino». Parlando della popolazione sarda protagonista dei suoi romanzi la paragona a Hardy, e in questa comparazione singolare sottolinea che la Sardegna è proprio come per Thomas Hardy l'isolato Wessex. Solo che subito dopo aggiunge che a differenza di Hardy, «Grazia Deledda ha una isola tutta per sé, la propria isola di Sardegna, che lei ama profondamente: soprattutto la parte della Sardegna che sta più a Nord, quella montuosa». E ancora scrive: «È la Sardegna antica, quella che viene finalmente alla ribalta, che è il vero tema dei libri di Grazia Deledda. Essa sente il fascino della sua isola e della sua gente, più che essere attratta dai problemi della psiche umana. E pertanto questo libro, La Madre, è forse uno dei meno tipici fra i suoi romanzi, uno dei più continentali».
