Excerpt from An Account of Reason and Faith: In Relation to the Mysteries of Christianity I alient to by Divine Faith can have a greater obieetive Certainty than what I clearly and difiinfily Perceive or Know, bot only that there is a Pollibility, n0t to fay Danger, of my taking that for a clear and diflinft Perception Which indeed is Nor io, and fo though I can not be deceiv'd in what I do truly know, yet I may be deceiv'd in thinking that I know when I do nor. So that Divine Faith though not more Certain than Knowledge it felf, is yet of greater Certainty than our Knowing Fa cu/tzer, and generally {peaking the Believer goes upon furer grounds than the Man of Reafon and Demontlration. Becaufe his Reafon may po ibly lead him into Error, whereas the 0' ther's Authority cannot. And when they are both in the right, yet llill there will be this dif ference between them, that his Reafon is only no; Decez'v'd, Whereas the Othet's Faith is Injar'. I; la.
