The French attempted an ef'rabliﬂiment in North America; but it was not until the year 1625, that they made their hri'c fettlement in the weft-indies. This was Upon St. Chrd'topher, one of the Caribee iflands. A remarkable circumfiance attended it; the Englif'n took poifefiion of the ifland the fame day. But this fettlement had no long life on either fide.
