OPINIONS of authorities differ widely concerning the origin of playing cards, the purpose for which they were intended, and the time of their introduction into Europe. In his Researches into the History of Playing Cards, Samuel Weller Singer advances the opinion that cards reached Southern Europe from India by way of Arabia. It is probable that the Tarot cards were part of the magical and philosophical lore secured by the Knights Templars from the Saracens or one of the mystical sects then flourishing in Syria. Returning to Europe, the Templars, to avoid persecution, concealed the arcane meaning of the symbols by introducing the leaves of their magical book ostensibly as a device for amusement and gambling. In support of this contention, Mrs. John King Van Rensselaer states:"That cards were brought by the home-returning warriors, who imported many of the newly acquired customs and habits of the Orient to their own countries, seems to be a well-established fact; and it does not contradict the statement made by some writers who declared that the gypsies--who about that time began to wander over Europe--brought with them and introduced cards, which they used, as they do at the present day, for divining the future." Tarot Alchemy written by Kenneth Joseph Coombs and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-02-09 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

Employing a practical, mathematical approach, author Kenneth Coombs presents a scientific and comprehensive analysis of the twenty-two Tarot cards in the Major Arcana. This detailed examination deciphers the reactions and interactions of the Tarot cards with each other, rather than simply the individual meanings of each card. He shares the results of the 231 possible combinations. In Tarot Alchemy, Coombs, a chemist with more than thirty years of Tarot card reading experience, discusses a novel approach to understanding Tarot. He details the process of alchemy, which involves looking at each Tarot card as an element. The interactions of the Tarot cards are like reactions that create molecules, and it is the interactions of the Tarot cards with each other that give depth and enlightenment in a Tarot reading. This process has given him the ability to determine specific timeframes and even names of people and places using the cards. His approach of deciphering the interactions in a scientific way leads to new insights about the meanings of the Tarot cards in a reading. Tarot Alchemy shows how learning to find patterns in the cards strengthens intuitive abilities and unlocks the doors to understanding the Tarot cards.

This is a premium, colour printing of Tarot in Context, intended as an eye-catching gift to share with friends or as an item to entertain guests in waiting rooms. The Tarot cards are Juan Buain's custom vitraux-style rendering of RWS. Each Tarot card has its own two-page spread and the pages are sorted in deck order for easy access to a given page. A large-print black-and-white version is also available at a more affordable price. About Tarot in Context You read one or more of the many introductory book about Tarot. You might have started doing readings for friends and family. But the cards themselves stay elusive. Some cards look too similar. Their differences seem to elude you. Remembering all the 78 cards by rote learning is not working. Tarot in Context accompanies your journey of learning by putting the cards in a context where you can see them inaction. Many Tarot cards express similar concepts, with subtle differences in degree and reach. Tarot in Context proposes a fun way to learn these differences: by seeing how they modify the course of action of a given story. From a central premise, choosing different tarot cards from hand-picked groups of "confusing" triplets of cards, 52 different stories unfold. Seeing how different cards evolve a central story, you can relate each card back to the central story. This allows for your memory to make"hooks" in your brain to place the cards and retrieve them faster and more easily. Tarot in Context is "Choose Your Own Adventure(TM)" with Tarot Cards. The central story deals with Susan Mckenzie Robinson, at a the crossroads in love, work and family. Each story is very short, 4-5 pages in length. The different stories can be browsed or certain cards can be reviewed directly, seeing how they affect a given substory. It includes also an analysis of how the divinatory meaning of each Tarot card affects the different substories.

Arthur E. Waite and artist Pamela Colman Smith's Rider-Waite Tarot (1909) is the most popular Tarot in the world. Today, it is affectionately referred to as the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot in recognition of the high quality of Smith's contributions. Waite and Smith's deck has become the gold standard for identifying and analyzing contemporary Tarot and other meditation decks based on archetypes. Developments in both visual and literary history and theory have influenced Tarot since its fifteenth-century invention as a game and subsequent adaptations for esotericism, cartomancy, and meditation. This analysis consider Tarot in relation to established modern and postmodern art movements, such as Symbolism, Surrealism, and Pattern and Decoration Art, as well as the concepts and theories informing both the dominance and the dissolution of the modernist "grid" and hierarchical priorities. This work also explores the close connection between Tarot and the invention of the literary novel and includes new material on the representation of Tarot in film and fiction. A new chapter addresses the growing influence of the archetypal "shadow" and "shadow work" on Tarot as an artistic form, narrative genre, and practice in the new millennium.
