Traffic Control Systems Handbook written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1976 with Electronic traffic controls categories.

This handbook, which was developed in recognition of the need for the compilation and dissemination of information on advanced traffic control systems, presents the basic principles for the planning, design, and implementation of such systems for urban streets and freeways. The presentation concept and organization of this handbook is developed from the viewpoint of systems engineering. Traffic control studies are described, and traffic control and surveillance concepts are reviewed. Hardware components are outlined, and computer concepts, and communication concepts are stated. Local and central controllers are described, as well as display, television and driver information systems. Available systems technology and candidate system definition, evaluation and implementation are also covered. The management of traffic control systems is discussed.

This "Traffic Control Systems Handbook" updates the 1985 edition (FHWA-IP-85-11; TRIS 00475445) and broadens the scope to include Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technology and concepts. The Handbook recommends decision-making processes in selection, implementation and operations of a traffic control system and describes ITS plans and programs. The "Traffic Control Systems Handbook": serves as a basic reference in planning, designing and implementing effective traffic control systems; provides an updated compendium of existing traffic control technology for the advanced designer and user; describes existing and evolving traffic control system technology; and aids understanding and facilitates training in the traffic control system field.

One of the major problems of both developed and developing countries is traffic congestion in urban road transportation systems. Some of the adverse consequences of traffic congestion are loss of productive time, delay in transportation, increase in transportation cost, excess fuel consumption, safety of people, increase in air pollution level and disruption of day-to-day activities. Researches have shown that among others, traditional traffic control system is one of the main reasons for traffic congestion at traffic junctions. Most countries through out the world use pre-timed / fixed cycle time traffic control systems. But these traffic control systems do not give an optimal signal time setting as they do not take into account the time dependent heavy traffic conditions at the junctions. They merely use a predetermined sequence or order for both signal phase change and time setting. Some times this also leads to more congestion at the junctions. As an improvement of fixed time traffic control method, fuzzy logic traffic control model was developed which takes into account the current traffic conditions at the junctions and works based on fuzzy logic principle under imprecise and uncertain conditions. But as a real life situation,in addition to uncertainty and impreciseness there is also indeterminacy in traffic signal control constraints which fuzzy logic can not handle. The aim of this research is to develop a new traffic signal control model that can solve the limitations of fixed time signal control and fuzzy logic signal control using a flexible approach based on interval-valued neutrosophic soft set and its decision making technique, specially developed for this purpose. We have developed an algorithm for controlling both phase change and green time extension / termination as warranted by the traffic conditions prevailing at any time.

The project included a comprehensive evaluation of UTCS first generation control software in New Orleans, Louisiana, and research on selected aspects of traffic signal control. This report summarizes a detailed review and comparison of alternative evaluation methods. This report examines the "observation matching" and "statistical relationships between volume and performance" evaluation methods in detail. Section II describes the general concept and application of these methods. Section III presents the results of applying these two methods in a comprehensive evaluation of alternative control strategies in New Orleans, Louisiana. Section IV summarizes the analysis and presents specific guidelines for future evaluation studies.
