This book introduces random currents by presenting underlying mathematical methods necessary for applications. The theory of currents is an advanced topic in geometric measure theory that extends distribution to linear functionals within the space of differential forms of any order. Methods to extend random distributions to random currents are introduced and analyzed in this book. Beginning with an overview of mathematical aspects of the theory of currents, this book moves on to examine applications in medicine, material science, and image analysis. Applied researchers will find the practical modern mathematical methods along with the detailed appendix useful to stimulate new applications and research.

Modern developments of Random Matrix Theory as well as pedagogical approaches to the standard core of the discipline are surprisingly hard to find in a well-organized, readable and user-friendly fashion. This slim and agile book, written in a pedagogical and hands-on style, without sacrificing formal rigor fills this gap. It brings Ph.D. students in Physics, as well as more senior practitioners, through the standard tools and results on random matrices, with an eye on most recent developments that are not usually covered in introductory texts. The focus is mainly on random matrices with real spectrum. The main guiding threads throughout the book are the Gaussian Ensembles. In particular, Wigner’s semicircle law is derived multiple times to illustrate several techniques (e.g., Coulomb gas approach, replica theory). Most chapters are accompanied by Matlab codes (stored in an online repository) to guide readers through the numerical check of most analytical results.

Bowman and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-12-02 with Science categories.
The aim of this book volume is to explain the importance of Markov state models to molecular simulation, how they work, and how they can be applied to a range of problems. The Markov state model (MSM) approach aims to address two key challenges of molecular simulation: 1) How to reach long timescales using short simulations of detailed molecular models. 2) How to systematically gain insight from the resulting sea of data. MSMs do this by providing a compact representation of the vast conformational space available to biomolecules by decomposing it into states sets of rapidly interconverting conformations and the rates of transitioning between states. This kinetic definition allows one to easily vary the temporal and spatial resolution of an MSM from high-resolution models capable of quantitative agreement with (or prediction of) experiment to low-resolution models that facilitate understanding. Additionally, MSMs facilitate the calculation of quantities that are difficult to obtain from more direct MD analyses, such as the ensemble of transition pathways. This book introduces the mathematical foundations of Markov models, how they can be used to analyze simulations and drive efficient simulations, and some of the insights these models have yielded in a variety of applications of molecular simulation.

Nonstationarity is another name for intermittency, a phenomenon which affects many physical processes. Data collected in many R&D programs frequently exhibit nonstationary features, and problems inherent in the analysis of such data are profound. The premier objective of these proceedings is to consolidate recent developments in nonstationary analysis. A second objective is to delineate open problems. A by-product will hopefully be a bridging of the gap between related governmental needs, and the present-day research capabilities of both academics and non-academics alike.
