Speech technology is a major and growing industry that enriches the lives of technologically-minded people in a number of ways. Many potential users are, however, excluded: Namely, all speakers who cannot easily, or even at all, produce speech. Silent-Speech Interfaces offer a way to communicate with a machine through a convenient speech recognition interface without the need for acoustic speech. To that end, the speech movements need to be captured and mapped to either text or acoustic speech. This dissertation proposes a new Silent-Speech Interface based on a newly developed measurement technology called Electro-Optical Stomatography and a novel parametric vocal tract model to facilitate real-time speech synthesis based on the measured data. The hardware was used to conduct command word recognition studies reaching state-of-the-art intra- and inter-individual performance. Furthermore, a study on using the hardware to control the vocal tract model in a direct articulationto- speech synthesis loop was also completed. While the intelligibility of consonants and connected speech was quite poor, the intelligibility of synthesized vowels was high. Promising ways to improve the system are discussed in the outlook.

What Is Silent Speech Interface The term "silent speech interface" refers to a technology that enables communication through speech without the need of the sound that is produced when humans vocalize their speech sounds. In this sense, it can be thought of as a form of electronic lip reading. The computer is able to determine the phonemes that a person pronounces based on information about their speech motions and other non-auditory sources of information about those movements. After that, speech synthesis is utilized to reproduce the speech based on these components. BRAIN-COMPUTER INTERFACE It covers all the research prospects and recent advancements in the brain-computer interface using deep learning. The brain-computer interface (BCI) is an emerging technology that is developing to be more functional in practice. The aim is to establish, through experiences with electronic devices, a communication channel bridging the human neural networks within the brain to the external world. For example, creating communication or control applications for locked-in patients who have no control over their bodies will be one such use. Recently, from communication to marketing, recovery, care, mental state monitoring, and entertainment, the possible application areas have been expanding. Machine learning algorithms have advanced BCI technology in the last few decades, and in the sense of classification accuracy, performance standards have been greatly improved. For BCI to be effective in the real world, however, some problems remain to be solved. Research focusing on deep learning is anticipated to bring solutions in this regard. Deep learning has been applied in various fields such as computer vision and natural language processing, along with BCI growth, outperforming conventional approaches to machine learning. As a result, a significant number of researchers have shown interest in deep learning in engineering, technology, and other industries; convolutional neural network (CNN), recurrent neural network (RNN), and generative adversarial network (GAN). Audience Researchers and industrialists working in brain-computer interface, deep learning, machine learning, medical image processing, data scientists and analysts, machine learning engineers, electrical engineering, and information technologists.
