The perfect book for those interested in the history of tarot, its meanings, and symbology. Paul Foster Case (1884-1954) was a highly respected 20th century American occultist. Now it is finally available in digital format to reveal to modern readers the deeper symbolism of the 78 tarot cards, and the occult meanings they embody. Learning the Tarot, Joan Bunning offers a complete course in 19 lessons that covers the basics and then gradually goes into more advanced concepts. First published in 1998, Joan Bunning’s Learning the Tarot has become a tarot classic. Written in a confident and natural style, the book communicates the basic depth and beauty of each card, shows how the cards trigger psychological projection, and enhances intuition. Learning the Tarot is a thorough (but never overwhelming) invitation to the beginner. The book focuses in detail on: the actual process of discovering meaning in the cards how to consider one card by itself, how to look for card pairs how to create the "story" of a reading The book includes a convenient reference section that contains two pages of information for each card, including a picture from the popular Waite-Smith deck, a description, keywords, action phrases, and suggestions for cards with similar and opposite meanings. The author first presented this course online at learntarot.com, which continues to attract over one hundred thousand visitors per month. “When I first created my website in 1995,” writes Joan Bunning, “I never dreamed how much interest in the tarot I would find. People from all over the world began writing to tell me about their experiences with the course and their adventures with the cards. This response was music to my ears! I knew from my own experience that the tarot is a wonderful tool for personal guidance and inner exploration. “My goal with this book was to give you the basics you need to begin working with the tarot on your own. I try to make this inner process understandable by breaking it up into a series of steps that are simple while still doing justice to the depth and beauty of the cards. I concentrate on the everyday, showing how the tarot makes real, practical sense in the modern world. The tarot is a living system that adapts creatively to each user. Rather than rules, I offer guidelines. While reading my book, I want you to feel that you have a teacher sitting next to you who is introducing you to this special tool, but also encouraging you to go on to discover your own unique approach to the cards.”

The B.O.T.A. Tarot was created by Paul Foster Case, founder of B.O.T.A. and artist Jessie Burns Parke. Though the B.O.T.A. Tarot for the most part closely resembles the Rider-Waite deck[1], Paul Foster Case corrected what he felt were mistakes or "blinds" in the Rider-Waite edition. In "The Tarot," Case published the Hebrew letter attributions of the Golden Dawn for the first time. Also made public was the Tarot tableau, a pattern for laying out all of the Tarot Keys which reveals certain relationships and dissimilarities among them. This tableau was used by the American branch of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn when Case was Praemonstrator of that Order. This was the first published book to reveal almost all of the Tarot attributions on the Qabalistic "Cube of Space" diagram. Of course the Sepher Yetzirah is the source of the link between the Cube of Space and the Hebrew letters. Until the publication of this book, most English speaking occultists had never heard of the "Cube of Space" and were not aware how it related to the much better-known "Tree of Life" diagram. In fact, until the mid-1990s there were almost no other books in print which even mentioned the Cube of Space. The ones that do refer and defer to Case's pioneering and authoritative work on the subject

Dr. Albert G. Mackey, also the author of The Lexicon of Freemasonry appears as author of this " Encyclopedia of Freemasonry and its Kindred Sciences," which, being a library in inself, superseded most of the Masonic works which have been tolerated by the craft—chiefly because none better could be obtained. Here, in one giant volume is a work which fulfils the hope which sustained the author through ten years' literary labor, that, under one cover he "would furnish every Mason who might consult its pages the means of acquiring a knowledge of all matters connected with the science, the philosophy, and the history of his order." For more than thirty years Dr. Mackey has devoted earnest and constant study and research to the history, the objects, and the condition of Masonry. In the present work, the crowning and successful result of a life's labors, he has received no assistance from any one. He says, " Every article was written by myself," and he adds, which would extenuate errors, had he fallen into any, "For twelve months, too, of the time occupied upon this work, I suffered from an affection of the sight, which forbade all use of the eyes for purposes of study. During that time, now happily passed, all authorities were consulted by the willing eyes of my daughters—all writing was done by their hands. I realized for a time the picture so often painted of the blind bard dictating his sublime verses to his daughters," and his preface closes with the words, "Were I to dedicate this work at all, my dedication should be—To Filial Affection." Up to the present time the modern literature of Freemasonry has been diffuse, lumbering, unreliable, and, out of all reasonable proportions.
