Extremely carefully written, masterfully thought out, and skillfully arranged introduction … to the arithmetic of algebraic curves, on the one hand, and to the algebro-geometric aspects of number theory, on the other hand. … an excellent guide for beginners in arithmetic geometry, just as an interesting reference and methodical inspiration for teachers of the subject … a highly welcome addition to the existing literature. —Zentralblatt MATH The interaction between number theory and algebraic geometry has been especially fruitful. In this volume, the author gives a unified presentation of some of the basic tools and concepts in number theory, commutative algebra, and algebraic geometry, and for the first time in a book at this level, brings out the deep analogies between them. The geometric viewpoint is stressed throughout the book. Extensive examples are given to illustrate each new concept, and many interesting exercises are given at the end of each chapter. Most of the important results in the one-dimensional case are proved, including Bombieri's proof of the Riemann Hypothesis for curves over a finite field. While the book is not intended to be an introduction to schemes, the author indicates how many of the geometric notions introduced in the book relate to schemes, which will aid the reader who goes to the next level of this rich subject.

Mathematics is very much a part of our culture; and this invaluable collection serves the purpose of developing the branches involved, popularizing the existing theories and guiding our future explorations.More precisely, the goal is to bring the reader to the frontier of current developments in arithmetic geometry and number theory through the works of Deninger-Werner in vector bundles on curves over p-adic fields; of Jiang on local gamma factors in automorphic representations; of Weng on Deligne pairings and Takhtajan-Zograf metrics; of Yoshida on CM-periods; of Yu on transcendence of special values of zetas over finite fields. In addition, the lecture notes presented by Weng at the University of Toronto from October to November 2005 explain basic ideas and the reasons (not just the language and conclusions) behind Langlands' fundamental, yet notably difficult, works on the Eisenstein series and spectral decompositions. And finally, a brand new concept by Weng called the Geometric Arithmetic program that uses algebraic and/or analytic methods, based on geometric considerations, to develop the promising and yet to be cultivated land of global arithmetic that includes non-abelian Class Field Theory, Riemann Hypothesis and non-abelian Zeta and L Functions, etc.

This is a description of the underlying principles of algebraic geometry, some of its important developments in the twentieth century, and some of the problems that occupy its practitioners today. It is intended for the working or the aspiring mathematician who is unfamiliar with algebraic geometry but wishes to gain an appreciation of its foundations and its goals with a minimum of prerequisites. Few algebraic prerequisites are presumed beyond a basic course in linear algebra.

In the last decade or so, analytic methods have had great success in answering questions in arithmetic geometry and number theory. The School provided a unique opportunity to introduce graduate students to analytic methods in arithmetic geometry. The book contains four articles. Alina C. Cojocaru's article introduces sieving techniques to study the group structure of points of the reduction of an elliptic curve modulo a rational prime via its division fields. Harald A. Helfgott's article provides an introduction to the study of growth in groups of Lie type, with SL2(Fq) and some of its subgroups as the key examples. The article by Étienne Fouvry, Emmanuel Kowalski, Philippe Michel, and Will Sawin describes how a systematic use of the deep methods from ℓ-adic cohomology pioneered by Grothendieck and Deligne and further developed by Katz and Laumon help make progress on various classical questions from analytic number theory. The last article, by Andrew V. Sutherland, introduces Sato-Tate groups and explores their relationship with Galois representations, motivic L-functions, and Mumford-Tate groups.

Arithmetic Geometry written by Nancy Childress and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994-01-01 with Mathematics categories.

This book resulted from a research conference in arithmetic geometry held at Arizona State University in March 1993. The papers describe important recent advances in arithmetic geometry. Several articles deal with p-adic modular forms of half-integral weight and their roles in arithmetic geometry. The volume also contains material on the Iwasawa theory of cyclotomic fields, elliptic curves, and function fields, including p-adic L-functions and p-adic height pairings. Other articles focus on the inverse Galois problem, fields of definition of abelian varieties with real multiplication, and computation of torsion groups of elliptic curves. The volume also contains a previously unpublished letter of John Tate, written to J.-P. Serre in 1973, concerning Serre's conjecture on Galois representations. With contributions by some of the leading experts in the field, this book provides a look at the state of the art in arithmetic geometry.

An Invitation To Modern Enumerative Geometry written by Andrea T. Ricolfi and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-12-14 with Mathematics categories.

This book is based on a series of lectures given by the author at SISSA, Trieste, within the PhD courses Techniques in enumerative geometry (2019) and Localisation in enumerative geometry (2021). The goal of this book is to provide a gentle introduction, aimed mainly at graduate students, to the fast-growing subject of enumerative geometry and, more specifically, counting invariants in algebraic geometry. In addition to the more advanced techniques explained and applied in full detail to concrete calculations, the book contains the proofs of several background results, important for the foundations of the theory. In this respect, this text is conceived for PhD students or research “beginners” in the field of enumerative geometry or related areas. This book can be read as an introduction to Hilbert schemes and Quot schemes on 3-folds but also as an introduction to localisation formulae in enumerative geometry. It is meant to be accessible without a strong background in algebraic geometry; however, three appendices (one on deformation theory, one on intersection theory, one on virtual fundamental classes) are meant to help the reader dive deeper into the main material of the book and to make the text itself as self-contained as possible.

The 'Arithmetic and Geometry' trimester, held at the Hausdorff Research Institute for Mathematics in Bonn, focussed on recent work on Serre's conjecture and on rational points on algebraic varieties. The resulting proceedings volume provides a modern overview of the subject for graduate students in arithmetic geometry and Diophantine geometry. It is also essential reading for any researcher wishing to keep abreast of the latest developments in the field. Highlights include Tim Browning's survey on applications of the circle method to rational points on algebraic varieties and Per Salberger's chapter on rational points on cubic hypersurfaces.
