An “Unnecessary” War is a researched readable account of the Korean Conflict, told an Air Force Officer who served with the 3rd Bomb Wing (Light). (Not until 1986 did the US Congress declare the Korean War to be a real war) The cost in human and material loss in the three war years was huge. Any gain is still difficult to assess. Communism was halted, but a grim totalitarian regime was left in place that is now a nuclear thorn in the side of the planet. The book discusses in some detail, the political and financial (yes-financial) decisions made by UN and US political leaders leading to Chairman Mao’s and Joe Stalin’s approval of Kim Il Sung’s ill-considered crusade to invade the South. (Kim Il Sung was the grandfather of our present pesky North Korean Kim, who seems to blame his self-inflicted ills on America) Most recounts of the Korean War are either biased or too detailed for the non-military reader. This book was written for the rest of us, and contains hopefully unbiased judgmental information not available elsewhere in a single writing. The book contents are set in chronological order with descriptions of major battles, discussions of conflicts, weaknesses, and interplay of US commanders, particularly the actions, sometimes inexplicable, of Douglas MacArthur. It also contains a summary of casualties and losses, orders of battle of both the US Army and USAF, and descriptions of Communist forces committed at critical times. Discussions of the efforts of other UN members, particularly the British Commonwealth and Turkish forces give an insight to the contribution and sacrifices of our comrades-in-arms. With access to USAF “frag” orders at the time, the air war descriptions here are likely more accurate than in USAF published histories tending to glorify USAF contributions. Post Korean War discussions with National Guard comrades with the 2d Division during the disastrous Chongchon rout, add an eyes-on contribution to the discussion of this engagement.

In not too many years into the future, the worst war the world had ever known had broken out! And as it raged across the whole planet, such was its fury, that it seemed to be far more than just another conflict. Because what it came across as, was a kind of fulfilment of divine prophecy, such was the furious nature of this struggle. Everything that was good and evil which defined the human race was bound up into it, and as the evil side rampaged through country after country, the good side was for the time being, led by a lacklustre US President, Jeremiah Abrahams, who found himself and his country in the eye of the storm. But this war was unlike anything that had happened before, as a monstrously evil leader, was determined to succeed where others before him had failed. This meant the good side had to win come what may, but there was a sting in the tail which nobody expected. And A Totally Unnecessary War is how that came about!

Were World Wars I and II inevitable? Were they necessary wars? Or were they products of calamitous failures of judgment? In this monumental and provocative history, Patrick Buchanan makes the case that, if not for the blunders of British statesmen– Winston Churchill first among them–the horrors of two world wars and the Holocaust might have been avoided and the British Empire might never have collapsed into ruins. Half a century of murderous oppression of scores of millions under the iron boot of Communist tyranny might never have happened, and Europe’s central role in world affairs might have been sustained for many generations. Among the British and Churchillian errors were: • The secret decision of a tiny cabal in the inner Cabinet in 1906 to take Britain straight to war against Germany, should she invade France • The vengeful Treaty of Versailles that mutilated Germany, leaving her bitter, betrayed, and receptive to the appeal of Adolf Hitler • Britain’s capitulation, at Churchill’s urging, to American pressure to sever the Anglo-Japanese alliance, insulting and isolating Japan, pushing her onto the path of militarism and conquest • The greatest mistake in British history: the unsolicited war guarantee to Poland of March 1939, ensuring the Second World War Certain to create controversy and spirited argument, Churchill, Hitler, and “the Unnecessary War” is a grand and bold insight into the historic failures of judgment that ended centuries of European rule and guaranteed a future no one who lived in that vanished world could ever have envisioned.

‘Australian governments find it easy to go to war. Their leaders seem to be able to withdraw with a calm conscience, answerable neither to God nor humanity.’ Australia lost 600 men in the Boer War, a three-year conflict fought in the heart of Africa that had ostensibly nothing to do with Australia. Coinciding with Federation, the war kickstarted Australia’s commitment to fighting in Britain’s wars overseas, and forged a national identity around it. By 1902, when the Boer War ended, a mythology about our colonial soldiers had already been crafted, and a dangerous precedent established. This is Henry Reynolds at his searing best, as he shows how the Boer War left a dark and dangerous legacy, demonstrating how those beliefs have propelled us into too many unnecessary wars – without ever counting the cost.

Vietnam written by Michael Lind and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-30 with History categories.

Michael Lind casts new light on one of the most contentious episodes in American history in this controversial bestseller. In this groundgreaking reinterpretation of America's most disatrous and controversial war, Michael Lind demolishes enduring myths and put the Vietnam War in its proper context—as part of the global conflict between the Soviet Union and the United States. Lind reveals the deep cultural divisions within the United States that made the Cold War consensus so fragile and explains how and why American public support for the war in Indochina declined. Even more stunning is his provacative argument that the United States failed in Vietnam because the military establishment did not adapt to the demands of what before 1968 had been largely a guerrilla war. In an era when the United States so often finds itself embroiled in prolonged and difficult conflicts, Lind offers a sobering cautionary tale to Ameicans of all political viewpoints.

On the eve of March 24, 1999, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) began bombing the sovereign nation of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, a poorly developed nation the size of Kentucky with a population of eleven million. Led by the United States, NATO bombed Yugoslavia for seventy-eight days and nights, with the objective of ending the repression of the ethnic Albanian population in the province of Kosovo. This book explores the numerous questions about the legality, morality, and necessity of NATO's military intervention. Colonel Rothrock probes some of the pervasive questions about the Kosovo War: - Were all alternatives short of war explored? - Were conventions of international law contravened? - Why were some provisions of the Rambouillet peace agreement nonnegotiable? - Was the proposed Rambouillet agreement written with provisions that no sovereign nation could accept? - Why did the United States insist that only a NATO implementation force inside Yugoslavia and Kosovo was acceptable? - Why was the Yugoslavian Parliament's last-minute offer to consider an international occupation force other than NATO ignored?
