Our story was one filled with heartache. But overpowered by love. It wasn't a traditional happy ever after. But it was one I wanted to be part of. . . I felt feelings for her that I didn't know existed the first second I saw her. She was born to be mine. She was everything. . . the bright stars that lit up my darkness. The angel that would save me from hell. She wanted a fairy tale but I wasn't born to be Prince charming. All I could offer was a horror story. I just had no idea how horrible a story it would be. . . They dimmed the bright lights in her soul, but I had walked the darkness for years. I knew where to find her. I knew I'd revive her. And I knew I could end her pain when I ended the lives of those who caused it. I would happily play the villain in this story, as long as I wasn't hers. Please understand, this book is meant for mature readers and deals with some themes readers may be sensitive towards and is generated towards readers aged eighteen and over. Trigger warnings of explicit sexual scenarios, including themes without consent.

ISSN: 2397-9607 Issue 354 In this 354th issue of the Baba Indaba’s Children's Stories series, Baba Indaba narrates the Fairy Tale "THE SPRING-TIDE OF LOVE”. A long time ago and far away, back when the mists of the early twilight were falling, Elsa, a little girl who lived at the woodman's cottage, was still far from home. She had wandered out in the spring sunshine in search of the bluebells and wild anemones with which the wood abounded, for the child loved the company of the birds and flowers better than the rough play of the boys who were called her brothers. The woodman and his wife said she was strange and dreamy, full of curious fancies which they found it hard to understand; but, then, they were not Elsa's real parents, which might account for their difficulty. They were kind to her, however, in their fashion, and Elsa always tried to remember to obey them; but sometimes she forgot. She had forgotten to-day—for although the good wife had told her to remain near the cottage, the eagerness of her search for the flowers she loved had led her farther into the wood than she had ever been before. The sunlight disappeared, and the darkness seemed to come quite suddenly under the thick branches of the trees; the birds had chanted their last evening song and gone to their nests—only a solitary thrush sang loudly just overhead; Elsa thought it was warning her to hurry homewards. She turned quickly, taking as she thought the direction of the cottage; but as she was barely seven years old, and felt a little frightened, it is not surprising that she only plunged deeper into the wood. Now she found herself in the midst of a great silence; the beautiful tracery of young green leaves through which she had hitherto caught glimpses of the sky had disappeared, and over her head stretched only bare brown branches, between which she saw the shining stars, clear as on a frosty winter's night. The stars looked friendly, and she was glad to see them, but it was growing dreadfully cold. The plucked flowers withered and fell from her poor little numbed hands, and she shivered in her thin cotton frock. What happened to lost little Elsa? Did the forest protect her or were there mean beasts lurking waiting for her to fall asleep? Well many things happened, some strange and some serious. To find the answers to these questions, and others you may have, you will have to download and read this story and find out for yourselves! It includes an in-depth introduction to the fairy tale genre itself, as well as the provenance of 'Rumpelstiltskin'. It encompasses 'The Seven Bits of Bacon Rind' by Giambattista Basile, 'Rumpelstiltskin' by the Brothers Grimm, 'Tom Tit Tot' by Joseph Jacobs, the Scottish tale of 'Whuppity Stoorie' and the Mongolian narrative of 'The Use of Magic Language'. What is a fairy tale? The 'Origins of Fairy Tales from around the World' series helps to answer this question, by showcasing the amazing breath and diversity involved in classic fairy tales. It focuses on the unusual phenomenon that the same tales, with only minor variations, appear again and again in different cultures – across time and geographical space. In the fairy tale, Cinderlad and the Princess on the Glass Hill: A Fairy Tale Retold by Princess Jenny, the King makes a royal decree and promises the hand of his daughter in marriage and half of his Kingdom to the man who could ride up the slippery hill of glass and take the golden apple from his daughter who sat atop the hill. Cinderlad was ridiculed by his father and two brothers for wanting to attempt the feat and they reminded him that his place was beside the cinders. Cinderlad did not allow the ridicule of others to lower his self-esteem nor deter him from his goal. He did not have a horse of his own nor knightly grabs. How could he enter the contest and win the Princess' hand in marriage and half of the Kingdom? Cinderlad was rewarded with an unusual gift by a fairy for his kindness. Cinderlad and the Princess on the Glass Hill teaches the lesson of remaining true to one's self even under the ridicule of others and to believe that one can achieve one's goals.
