Sie gilt als einer der Wachstumstreiber der Reisewirtschaft und als einer der größten Wachstumsmärkte. Deshalb ist das Gut "Mittelmeerkreuzfahrt" und der dazugehörige Markt auch wirtschaftlich besonders interessant. Einflussfaktoren wie die gegenwärtige Covid-19-Pandemie machen das Thema zusätzlich besonders aktuell. Doch welche Akteure handeln auf diesem Markt, was beeinflusst ihn und welche volkswirtschaftliche Bedeutung hat eigentlich dieses Gut? Um diese und weitere Fragen zu beantworten, sollen in der vorliegenden Arbeit Kreuzfahrten im Mittelmeer analysiert werden. Dafür wird zunächst auf das Gut selbst eingegangen und seine Entwicklung gezeigt. Anschließend wird Angebot und Nachfrage bestimmt und Komplemente und Substitute betrachtet. Die Marktform wird erläutert und das Marktgleichgewicht schließlich bestimmt. Welche volkswirtschaftliche Bedeutung das Gut für Deutschland hat und in welchem Zusammenhang das Bruttoinlandsprodukt und der Arbeitsmarkt hierzu stehen, soll im Anschluss analysiert und verdichtet werden. Außerdem werden die Auswirkungen von externen Schocks wie die Covid-19-Pandemie thematisiert. Im letzten Punkt werden mögliche staatliche Regulationen untersucht und betrachtet, ob diese nötig und umsetzbar sind. Ein Fazit beendet schließlich die Hausarbeit.

Seitdem haben sich Seereisen rund um die Welt zum Urlaubsvergnügen erster Klasse entwickelt. Vor allem der nordamerikanische Markt gilt als Hauptentwicklungsmotor der Kreuzfahrtbranche und bringt weltweit den größten Anteil am Passagieraufkommen hervor. Aber auch die europäischen Märkte haben in den letzten Jahren an Bedeutung gewonnen. Allerdings gestaltet es sich als sehr schwierig, einen Überblick über alle Kreuzfahrtmärkte, deren Entwicklung und aktuelle Situation zu bekommen, da – abgesehen von unzähligen Beiträgen in Fachzeitschriften und Zeitungen, die meist hauptsächlich Produkt- und Reisebeschreibungen enthalten – nur sehr wenig Literatur zur Verfügung steht, die sich ausgiebig mit dieser Thematik beschäftigt. Dies gilt auch für den deutschen Markt als ein Quellgebiet des Kreuzfahrttourismus. Aufgrund dessen verfolgt diese Arbeit das Ziel, eine umfassende Analyse des deutschen Kreuzfahrtmarktes zu liefern, wobei dabei sowohl die Anbieter- als auch die Nachfragerseite in wesentlichen Aspekten betrachtet werden sollen. Es werden vergangene und zukünftige Entwicklungen aufgezeigt, hauptsächlich aber wird die momentane Situation auf dem deutschen Markt dargestellt. Obwohl Kreuzfahrten auf Meeren und Flüssen stattfinden, beschränkt sich die Untersuchung hierbei auf den Hochseebereich, da zwischen Hochsee- und Flusskreuzfahrten erhebliche Unterschiede bestehen, auf die im Folgenden noch gründlich eingegangen wird.
