Dans un premier temps d'étude il convient de connaître les réactions d'une machine classique à ce nouveau genre d'alimentation, étant bien entendu que le but final de l'étude sera, dans un second temps, la mise au point d'une machine, peut être différente dans sa réalisation, mais parfaitement adaptée à cette alimentation. Nous nous proposons donc ici de considérer une machine asynchrone classique et d'étudier ses différents modes de fonctionnement quand on l'alimente à travers un système de commutation statique. On peut alors conduire l'étude de deux façons différentes selon qu'on considère que la structure de la machine est fixée (donc qu'on ne modifiera pas le nombre de phases statoriques) et qu'on fait varier la fréquence de l'alimentation ou selon qu'on se fixe le mode d'alimentation et qu'on modifie la structure de la machine en faisant varier le nombre de ses phases. Nous avons fait ces deux types d'étude, mais nous avons mis l'accent sur la deuxième partie, c'est-à-dire qu'on s'est plutôt attaché à étudier les performances comparées d'une machine dont on modifiait la structure dans le sens d'une multiplication de ses phases statoriques. Néanmoins, pour chacune de ces structures nous avons étudié les réactions de la machine alimentée à des fréquences différentes. On se propose d'atteindre deux objectifs : étudier un moteur asynchrone alimenté à fréquence variable (variation de vitesse) ; multiplier le nombre de phases d'alimentation du moteur de façon à se rapprocher d'une machine à commutation.
