This volume consists of the proceedings of the Workshop on Analysis and Simulation of Communication Networks held at The Fields Institute (Toronto). The workshop was divided into two main themes, entitled "Stability and Load Balancing of a Network of Call Centres" and "Traffic and Performance". The call centre industry is large and fast-growing. In order to provide top-notch customer service, it needs good mathematical models. The first part of the volume focuses on probabilistic issues involved in optimizing the performance of a call centre. While this was the motivating application, many of the papers are also applicable to more general distributed queueing networks. The second part of the volume discusses the characterization of traffic streams and how to estimate their impact on the performance of a queueing system. The performance of queues under worst-case traffic flows or flows with long bursts is treated. These studies are motivated by questions about buffer dimensioning and call admission control in ATM or IP networks. This volume will serve researchers as a comprehensive, state-of-the-art reference source on developments in this rapidly expanding field.

An Introduction To Communication Network Analysis written by George Kesidis and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-08-24 with Computers categories.
A self-contained text on modeling and performance evaluation of communication networks This quantitative book focuses on the real issues behind modeling and analysis of communication networks. The author covers a wide variety of topical networking subject matter based on the provided background material in probability, Markov chains, and queues. Leveraging this material, the author explores topics in local multiplexing and routing over three successive chapters, stressing both continuous-time and discrete-time contexts. The remaining chapters focus more directly on networking, such as traffic shaping and multiplexing, static routing, dynamic routing, and peer-to-peer file sharing systems. Providing more rigorous and technically deep coverage than most commonly used networking textbooks, An Introduction to Communication Network Analysis covers classical (e.g., queuing theory) and modern (e.g., pricing) aspects of networking in a clear, accessible manner. Chapters include: * Review of Elementary Probability Theory * Markov Chains * Introduction to Queuing Theory * Local Multiplexing * Queuing Networks with Static Routing * Dynamic Routing with Incentives * Peer-to-Peer File Sharing with Incentives Appendices include additional background information, solutions, and references for selected problems, making this an invaluable text for graduate-level students and networking researchers alike.

The International Conference on Networking (ICN01) is the first conference in its series aimed at stimulating technical exchange in the emerging and important field of networking. On behalf of the International Advisory Committee, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the International Conference on Networking. Integration of fixed and portable wirele ss access into IP and ATM networks presents a cost effective and efficient way to provide seamless end to end connectivity and ubiquitous access in a market where demands on Mobile and Cellular Networks have grown rapidly and predicted to generate billions of dollars in revenue. The deployment of broadband IP based technologies over Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and integration of IP with broadband wireless access networks (BWANs) are becoming increasingly important. In addition, fixed core IP/ATM networks are constructed with recent move to IP/MPLS over DWDM. More over, mobility introduces further challenges in the area that have neither been fully understood nor resolved in the preceding network generation. This first Conference ICN01 has been very well perceived by the International networking community. A total of 300 papers from 39 countries were submitted, from which 168 have been accepted. Each paper has been reviewed by several members of the scientific Program Committee.

Stochastic Process Limits written by Ward Whitt and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-04-11 with Mathematics categories.
Stochastic Process Limits are useful and interesting because they generate simple approximations for complicated stochastic processes and also help explain the statistical regularity associated with a macroscopic view of uncertainty. This book emphasizes the continuous-mapping approach to obtain new stochastic-process limits from previously established stochastic-process limits. The continuous-mapping approach is applied to obtain heavy-traffic-stochastic-process limits for queueing models, including the case in which there are unmatched jumps in the limit process. These heavy-traffic limits generate simple approximations for complicated queueing processes and they reveal the impact of variability upon queueing performance. The book will be of interest to researchers and graduate students working in the areas of probability, stochastic processes, and operations research. In addition this book won the 2003 Lanchester Prize for the best contribution to Operation Research and Management in English, see: http://www.informs.org/Prizes/LanchesterPrize.html

A large number of mathematical models in many diverse areas of science and engineering have lead to the formulation of optimization problems where the best solution (globally optimal) is needed. This book covers a small subset of important topics in global optimization with emphasis on theoretical developments and scientific applications.

Symplectic And Contact Topology written by Y. Eliashberg and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-01-01 with Mathematics categories.
The papers presented in this volume are written by participants of the ''Symplectic and Contact Topology, Quantum Cohomology, and Symplectic Field Theory'' symposium. The workshop was part of a semester-long joint venture of The Fields Institute in Toronto and the Centre de Recherches Mathematiques in Montreal. The twelve papers cover the following topics: Symplectic Topology, the interaction between symplectic and other geometric structures, and Differential Geometry and Topology. The Proceeding concludes with two papers that have a more algebraic character. One is related to the program of Homological Mirror Symmetry: the author defines a category of extended complex manifolds and studies its properties. The subject of the final paper is Non-commutative Symplectic Geometry, in particular the structure of the symplectomorphism group of a non-commutative complex plane. The in-depth articles make this book a useful reference for graduate students as well as research mathematicians.

Representations Of Finite Dimensional Algebras And Related Topics In Lie Theory And Geometry written by Vlastimil Dlab and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Mathematics categories.
These proceedings are from the Tenth International Conference on Representations of Algebras and Related Topics (ICRA X) held at The Fields Institute. In addition to the traditional ``instructional'' workshop preceding the conference, there were also workshops on ``Commutative Algebra, Algebraic Geometry and Representation Theory'', ``Finite Dimensional Algebras, Algebraic Groups and Lie Theory'', and ``Quantum Groups and Hall Algebras''. These workshops reflect the latest developments and the increasing interest in areas that are closely related to the representation theory of finite dimensional associative algebras. Although these workshops were organized separately, their topics are strongly interrelated. The workshop on Commutative Algebra, Algebraic Geometry and Representation Theory surveyed various recently established connections, such as those pertaining to the classification of vector bundles or Cohen-Macaulay modules over Noetherian rings, coherent sheaves on curves, or ideals in Weyl algebras. In addition, methods from algebraic geometry or commutative algebra relating to quiver representations and varieties of modules were presented. The workshop on Finite Dimensional Algebras, Algebraic Groups and Lie Theory surveyed developments in finite dimensional algebras and infinite dimensional Lie theory, especially as the two areas interact and may have future interactions. The workshop on Quantum Groups and Hall Algebras dealt with the different approaches of using the representation theory of quivers (and species) in order to construct quantum groups, working either over finite fields or over the complex numbers. In particular, these proceedings contain a quite detailed outline of the use of perverse sheaves in order to obtain canonical bases. The book is recommended for graduate students and researchers in algebra and geometry.
