This Brief focuses on the dispersion of high-porosity particles, their entrainment into the vapor-laden stream, and the condensation of vapor onto the particles. The authors begin with a simple/static problem, focusing on transport within the particle. They go on to consider the high-resolution simulation of particles in a turbulent flow and the time-dependent evolution of the fluid-particle fields. Finally, they examine the more computationally-affordable large-eddy simulation of gas-to-particle mass-transfer. The book ends with a summary and challenges as well as directions for the area.

Numerous industrial systems or natural environments involve multiphase flows with heat and mass transfer. The authors of this book present the physical modeling of these flows, in a unified way, which can include various physical aspects and several levels of complexity. Thermal engineering and nuclear reactors; the extraction and transport of petroleum products; diesel and rocket engines; chemical engineering reactors and fluidized beds; smoke or aerosol dispersion; landslides and avalanches &− the modeling of multiphase flows with heat and mass transfer for all these situations can be developed following a common methodology. This book is devoted to the description of the mathematical bases of how to incorporate adequate physical ingredients in agreement with known experimental facts and how to make the model evolve according to the required complexity. Contents Part 1. Approach and General Equations 1. Towards a Unified Description of Multiphase Flows. 2. Instant Equations for a Piecewise Continuous Medium. 3. He was a member of the CNRS scientific committee and a laureate of the French Academy of Science. Fabien Anselmet is Professor at Ecole Centrale Marseille in France. His research activities focus on the turbulence of fluids and its varied applications in industry and in fields linked to the environment. With a unified, didactic style, this text presents tangible models of multiphase flows with heat and mass transfer with attention to various levels of complexities. It addresses thermal engineering and nuclear reactors, extraction and transport of petroleum products, diesel engines and rocket engines, chemical engineering reactors and fluidized beds, smoke or aerosol dispersion, and landslides and avalanches. Engineers, researchers, and scientists will appreciate the discussions of modeling principles, flows and granular media, and fluctuations around averages.

Turbulent Particle Laden Gas Flows written by Aleksei Y. Varaksin and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-07-05 with Science categories.

This book presents results of experimental and theoretical studies of "gas-solid particles" turbulent two-phase flows. It analyzes the characteristics of heterogeneous flows in channels (pipes), as well as those in the vicinity of the critical points of bodies subjected to flow and in the boundary layer developing on their surface. Coverage also treats in detail problems of physical simulation of turbulent gas flows which carry solid particles.

Fast Liquid Phase Processes In Turbulent Flows written by Karl Minsker and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-10-01 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book deals with the fundamental laws of passing of fast liquid-phase chemical as well as heat and mass transfer processes in turbulent flows. The fundamental laws of passing of fast liquid-phase chemical and also heat and mass transfer processes in turbulent flows are considered in the book. Development of a macrokinetics approach is generalized to the analysis of fast chemical reactions mainly based on an example of cationic isobutylene polymerization, which falls into to a new class of liquid-phase processes. The ways of decision of the hydrodynamical, thermal and kinetic movement’s equations of reaction mixture in which the fast exothermic chemical reaction runs are described. The principles and laws of formation of the essentially new mode of quasi-plug-flow mode are considered in turbulent flows ensuring quasi-isothermal conditions in zone reaction. The principles of work and area of industrial use of tubular turbulent devices cylindrical reactor, divergent-covergent reactor, shell-and-tube reactor, and reactor with fractional introduction of reactants are considered.

Microscales Of Turbulence written by Vedat S Arpaci and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-01-16 with Science categories.

This monograph presents the microscales of complex (buoyant, thermocapillary, two-phase, reacting, radiating, pulsating, etc.) turbulent flows and interprets heat and mass transfer correlations in terms of these scales. The author introduces a general methodology for the development of microscales for complex turbulent flows. Then he provides, by these scales, a fundamental interpretation for a number of momentum, heat, and mass transfer correlations which are assumed to be empirical. Lastly, he develops correlations in terms of these scales for environmentally and/or technologically important problems related to buoyancy driven flows, pulsating flows, diffusion flows, fires, etc.
