Seminar paper from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, grade: 1,3, Leeds Metropolitan University, language: English, abstract: PESTLE-framework In order to analyse the macro environmental influences which have a considerable impact on Bettys, the English Tea Company located in the north east of England, it is economically reasonable to look at the PESTLE framework. This framework is a useful tool to understand the environment in which an organisation operates. Environmental influences never influence an organisation to the same extent, for some organisations any changes in the surrounding environment will pose a threat but for others those changes might be favourable. "Also, it will affect some organisations favourably whilst posing a threat to others" (Johnson, G., Scholes, K.,2002, p.102). The PESTLE- framework categorises the influences of the environment into six types: political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental. Market Entry Strategies - Entering a new market is always a critical and fundamental decision due to the advantages and disadvantages of each entry strategy, which will have an influence on the organisation's performance. "Furthermore, the choice of entry method will involve the firm in a long-term commitment from which it might find it hard to extricate itself without some cost." (Chee, H., Harris, R.,1998, p. 292). According to Chee and Harris (1998, p. 291) "(...) it is not a practical strategy to enter all markets with one single entry method; many large companies adopt multiple entry strategies (...)". Indirect Exporting - As illustrated in the graphics, indirect exporting involves the lowest risk factor when entering a foreign market. This is an ideal strategy for companies that have not got any contacts to the foreign market. Bettys could sell its products to an intermediary in Yorkshire, who himself then sells this products to the Ger

Vertical Specialization and Inclusive Growth in China discusses the two interrelated developments that have transformed the Chinese economy in recent years. First, the global community has increased calls to foster inclusive economic growth, with China embracing this trend. Second, the explosive growth in China’s trade resulting from international vertical specialization production and trade networks which has complicated the notion of inclusive growth in the Chinese context. This book assesses these two trends quantitatively, giving evidence of the link between vertical specialization and inclusive growth, and then decomposing the inclusive growth effects of vertically specialized trade into six components: GDP growth, export growth, FDI, environment, employment, and innovation. It further explores the differing impact of conventional trade and processing trade on inclusive growth, providing direction for future policy. This second book by the author to consider vertical specialization stresses the importance of integration in driving inclusive growth. Argues that inclusive growth and vertical specialization analyses must be performed together Gives quantitative evidence for the link between vertical specialization and inclusive growth in China Investigates the different impact of conventional trade and processing trade on transition to inclusive growth in China, using comparative analysis techniques Offers insight on forming future policy in China to increase inclusive growth

Can developing countries trade their way out of poverty? International trade has grown dramatically in the last two decades in the global economy, and trade is an important source of revenue in developing countries. Yet, many low-income countries have been producing and exporting tropical commodities for a long time. They are still poor. This book is a major analytical contribution to understanding commodity production and trade, as well as putting forward policy-relevant suggestions for ‘solving’ the commodity problem. Through the study of the global value chain for coffee, the authors recast the ‘development problem’ for countries relying on commodity exports in entirely new ways. They do so by analysing the so-called coffee paradox – the coexistence of a ‘coffee boom’ in consuming countries and of a ‘coffee crisis’ in producing countries. New consumption patterns have emerged with the growing importance of specialty, fair trade and other ‘sustainable’ coffees. In consuming countries, coffee has become a fashionable drink and coffee bar chains have expanded rapidly. At the same time, international coffee prices have fallen dramatically and producers receive the lowest prices in decades. This book shows that the coffee paradox exists because what farmers sell and what consumers buy are becoming increasingly ‘different’ coffees. It is not material quality that contemporary coffee consumers pay for, but mostly symbolic quality and in-person services. As long as coffee farmers and their organizations do not control at least parts of this ‘immaterial’ production, they will keep receiving low prices. The Coffee Paradox seeks ways out from this situation by addressing some key questions: What kinds of quality attributes are combined in a coffee cup or coffee package? Who is producing these attributes? How can part of these attributes be produced by developing country farmers? To what extent are specialty and sustainable coffees achieving these objectives?

Co Evolution Of Secondary Metabolites written by Jean-Michel Mérillon and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-02-23 with Science categories.

This Reference Work is devoted to plant secondary metabolites and their evolutionary adaptation to different hosts and pests. Secondary metabolites play an important biological role in plants’ defence against herbivores, abiotic stresses and pathogens, and they also attract beneficial organisms such as pollinators. In this work, readers will find a comprehensive review of the phytochemical diversity, modification and adaptation of secondary metabolites, and the consequences of their co-evolution with plant parasites, pollinators, and herbivores. Chapters from expert contributors are organised into twelve sections that collate the current knowledge in intra-/inter-specific diversity in plant secondary metabolites, changes in secondary metabolites during plants’ adaptation to different environmental conditions, and co-evolution of host-parasite metabolites. Among the twelve themed parts, readers will also discover expert analysis on the genetics and chemical ecology evolution of secondary metabolites, and particular attention is also given to allelochemicals, bioactive molecules in plant defence and the evolution of sensory perception in vertebrates. This reference work will appeal to students, researchers and professionals interested in the field of plant pathology, plant breeding, biotechnology, agriculture and phytochemistry.

This study aims to analyze the coffee value chain in Uganda and identify opportunities and constraints for enhancing youth employment. Coffee is one of the key agricultural commodities in the Government of Uganda’s pursuance of sustainable growth and job creation, especially for the rapidly expanding youth population. The study outlines a significant number of job opportunities for young people along this value chain, not only in production but increasingly in processing, trade and marketing, as well as service provision. It also suggests strategic upgrading options and outlines concrete policy actions to maximize youth participation in and benefits from the coffee sub-sector.
