Sui lungarni di Pisa s’incrociano gli sguardi dei viaggiatori del Grand Tour sullo sfondo del processo ottocentesco di trasformazione delle rive e degli edifici che vi si affacciano contribuendo a definirne la vocazione culturale. Il momento di svolta che innesca nuove dinamiche funzionali coincide col secondo dopoguerra e inizia dalla conversione dell’ex convento di San Matteo in museo nazionale, su progetto di Piero Sanpaolesi. L’intervento s’inquadra nel contesto del dibattito internazionale sulla cultura e la prassi museografica, offrendo importanti argomenti di riflessione sul rapporto tra restauro e musealizzazione, tra musei, città e recupero delle rive fluviali. Con la teoria dei musei, in continuità diacronica e contiguità di percorso (Palazzo Reale, Palazzo Lanfranchi, Palazzo Blu, delle Navi di Pisa e della scienza), prende corpo il concetto di 'sistema', come insieme di più musei, tra loro diversi, ma uniti dal legame col territorio che li accoglie, rappresentato dall’Arno che attraversa la città e la sua storia.

Nato dall’esperienza di un seminario internazionale promosso dalla Scuola nel 2018, con il coinvolgimento di studiosi di università francesi e istituti archivistici italiani, insieme con ricercatori del Politecnico di Torino, il volume espande e ridiscute i temi allora affrontati, coinvolgendo anche specialisti e specializzandi. Il dialogo su temi di frontiera legati alla conservazione del patrimonio architettonico e artistico, con sguardi incrociati tra perlustrazione di fonti archivistiche e cantieri di costruzione, di trasformazione o di restauro, segnala l’inscindibilità tra conoscenza della fabbrica, della città e del territorio e programmi di intervento. L’approccio fortemente interdisciplinare ricompare prepotentemente nei casi affrontati, ripartiti in due sezioni, il cantiere storico e i suoi archivi, e il cantiere di restauro e i suoi archivi, ma di fatto in più di una situazione con un fecondo intreccio critico e con temi a cavallo tra conoscenza e restauro. Non mancano le esplorazioni che dal singolo bene si spingono al contesto urbano e financo territoriale, mostrando al contempo la varietà, ricchezza e imprescindibilità dell’archivio come serbatoio di memoria e strumento operativo in grado di guidare le scelte d’intervento.

This volume of Astrophysical Data deals with Planets and Stars; a second volume, Part II, will give data for Galaxies and the Universe. They both pro vide basic data for use by all scientists, from the amateur astronomer to the professional astrophysicist. In this first volume, we not only provide physical parameters of planets, stars and their environment, but we also provide the celestial coordinates required to observe them. Here we use c.g.s. units, for they are the most commonly used in astron omy and astrophysics; but our volume begins with astronomical and physical constants and the conversion factors needed for other units. The next section concerns the planets and their satellites; it singles out the Earth and Moon for special treatment. Spacecraft rendezvous with the planets and satellites have led to improved values for their atmospheric compositions, orbital parameters, magnetic fields, masses, radii, rotation periods, and surface pressures and temperatures. This section also contains data for the asteroids, comets and their debris. We then discuss everyday stars, beginning with the Sun, and continuing with basic stellar data, the brightest stars and nearby stars. Special categories of stars, such as the Wolf-Rayet stars, magnetic stars, flare stars, and RS CVn binary stars, are included.

This open access book investigates the pathologisation of homosexuality during the fascist regime in Italy through an analysis of the case of G., a man with "homosexual tendencies" interned in the Collegno mental health hospital in 1928. No systematic study exists on the possibility that Fascism used internment in an asylum as a tool of repression for LGBT people, as an alternative to confinement on an island, prison or home arrests. This research offers evidence that in some cases it did. The book highlights how the dictatorship operated in a low-key, shadowy and undetectable manner, bending pre-existing legislation. Its brutality was - and still is - difficult to prove. It also emphasises the ways in which existing stereotypes on homosexuality were reinforced by the regime propaganda in support of its so-called moralising campaign and how families, the police and the medical professionals joined forces in implementing this form of repression.
