Ancient Ways written by Jennifer Cameron and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05-18 with History categories.

The patriarchy, or male-led society has been the dominant way for the last 4,000 years ... But what about the 230,000 years before? In this stirring and insightful book, historian Jennifer Cameron lays out the bare facts of how the patriarchy has shaped the modern way of life, and how women and the planet have suffered terribly as a result. She shares the little-known story of the matrifocal way of life, where women are leaders and people are equal and live in harmony with nature. This was how humans lived across the globe for the vast majority of our history, and as Jennifer explains, there is much we can learn from this way of life now. With stories spanning across all parts of the globe, from Europe to Asia to the First Nation Peoples in Australia, Jennifer examines the place of women in civilisations and how this has shaped the way we interact with each other and with the world around us. Ancient Ways for Current Days is a timely call to action that offers women and men an alternative to our current destructive way of life. It is a must-read for anyone looking for hope and a better way, where women and men live in harmony with each other and with Nature, for the benefit of all. Jennifer Cameron is a historian, writer and social activist, particularly for women's rights and the rights of Nature. She has devoted much of her life to understanding the experience of women through the ages, particularly in prehistory and through Goddess Spirituality. She has worked as a teacher, trainer, policy writer for government and consultant to the not-for-profit sector, and is a current Co-Convenor of the Gaia Temple in Melbourne.

Women In The World Of The Earliest Christians written by Lynn Cohick and has been published by Baker Academic this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-11-01 with Religion categories.

Lynn Cohick provides an accurate and fulsome picture of the earliest Christian women by examining a wide variety of first-century Jewish and Greco-Roman documents that illuminate their lives. She organizes the book around three major spheres of life: family, religious community, and society in general. Cohick shows that although women during this period were active at all levels within their religious communities, their influence was not always identified by leadership titles nor did their gender always determine their level of participation. The book corrects our understanding of early Christian women by offering an authentic and descriptive historical picture of their lives. Includes black-and-white illustrations from the ancient world.

A guide for personal exploration of the path to the divine feminine and the spiritual power of women. • Reveals the essential role of women in creating and maintaining the psychic/energetic/emotional landscape of society. • Explores feminine roles and the archetypal model of the Great Goddess from both Eastern and Western spiritual traditions. • Includes exercises, meditations, and visualizations drawn from ancient techniques to assist women with their spiritual awakening and self-realization. The Path of the Priestess takes readers on a journey deep into the heart of the feminine experience. It describes the author's years of first-hand experience in the ancient arts of Tantra, Dzogchen, and Indian and Egyptian temple dance and healing, as well as her research into the feminine principle in the mystic teachings of the Alchemists, Hebrew Kabbalists, and Christian Gnostics. Beginning with an analysis of the basic issues and frustrations inherent in contemporary society's conditioning of and expectations for women, readers travel back in time to the age of the great temples, schools, and sacred societies in which women still held and transmitted the spiritual light that nourished all of civilization. Through its mythic and historic tales, descriptions of sacred ritual practices, and teachings on the Goddess traditions, The Path of the Priestess provides contemporary women with the means to enter this time-honored path. In keeping with the experientially based teaching methods of these traditions, it also offers exercises and visualizations designed to align women with the powerful, sensuous, and loving energies of the most profound feminine role model that shaped and preserved culture and society--the Great Goddess.

Queer Ancient Ways written by Zairong Xiang and has been published by punctum books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018 with Literary Criticism categories.

Queer Ancient Ways advocates a profound unlearning of colonial/modern categories as a pathway to the discovery of new forms and theories of queerness in the most ancient of sources. In this radically unconventional work, Zairong Xiang investigates scholarly receptions of mythological figures in Babylonian and Nahua creation myths, exposing the ways they have consistently been gendered as feminine in a manner that is not supported, and in some cases actively discouraged, by the texts themselves. An exercise in decolonial learning-to-learn from non-Western and non-modern cosmologies, Xiang's work uncovers a rich queer imaginary that had been all-but-lost to modern thought, in the process critically revealing the operations of modern/colonial systems of gender/sexuality and knowledge-formation that have functioned, from the Conquista de America in the sixteenth century to the present, to keep these systems in obscurity. At the heart of Xiang's argument is an account of the way the unfounded feminization of figures such as the Babylonian (co)creatrix Tiamat, and the Nahua creator-figures Tlaltecuhtli and Coatlicue, is complicit with their monstrification. This complicity tells us less about the mythologies themselves than about the dualistic system of gender and sexuality within which they have been studied, underpinned by a consistent tendency in modern/colonial thought to insist on unbridgeable categorical differences. By contextualizing these deities in their respective mythological, linguistic, and cultural environments, through a unique combination of methodologies and critical traditions in English, Spanish, French, Chinese, and Nahuatl, Xiang departs from the over-reliance of much contemporary queer theory on European (post)modern thought. Much more than a queering of the non-Western and non-modern, Queer Ancient Ways thus constitutes a decolonial and transdisciplinary engagement with ancient cosmologies and ways of thought which are in the process themselves revealed as theoretical sources of and for the queer imagination.
