Eternal Egypt: Ancient Rituals for the Modern World is the first comprehensive collection of important temple rituals performed throughout Egypt during the time of the pharaohs. The author presents seven key rites from official temple records and ancient esoteric texts for personal or group use. This guidebook also: - presents rituals in a form designed to assist initiates in restoring the ancient rites of Egypt; - provides for modern usage, key ritual texts coming solely from authenticated ancient sources; - contains easy to follow commentaries and background information on each ritual, including symbolism and mythology not previously available in one book; - gives text with commentary for the “Opening of the Mouth” ceremony; - offers practical information for conducting these rituals in today’s world. Formerly only available to the scholar and professional Egyptologist, these ritual texts reveal the deeply spiritual understanding of humanity’s relationship to divinity that characterized the ancient Egyptian sense of the sacred. This is a practical intermediate level text for those wishing to worship the great deities of ancient Egypt in as authentic a manner as possible, and by so doing tap into the great spiritual heritage that sustained Egyptian culture for over three thousand years.

This book is composed of authentic Ancient Egyptian texts of different Ancient Egyptian temple ceremonies and rituals. This is the collection of translations of really authentic Ancient Egyptian texts, which are not perverted and are not composed from different small fragments by our contemporary people. Most part of those authentic Ancient Egyptian texts already existed in their English translation, but the author had to translate some of the texts herself, for example, The Daily Temple Ritual from the temple of Amun-Ra at Karnak. This book is a kind of a prayer-book or a ceremonial book. It is designated not to be read only once and put away, but to be continuously used. This book is intended to be used by Kemetic priests and priestesses and equally by anyone who wants to perform those ceremonies and rituals. People who are interested in Ancient Egyptian rituals and ceremonies or are looking for the translations of the authentic texts will find this book to be very interesting and useful for them. The book is composed in such a way that anyone who would like to perform those ceremonies and rituals will have an easy guide for himself. This book is illustrated. Part of those illustrations, except of just decorating the book, has the practical purpose – those illustrations will help anyone, who will perform those ceremonies and rituals, to do this correctly. Those authentic Ancient Egyptian texts have particular energy, which produce real results when those texts are used during ceremonies and rituals. That is to say, those texts “work” in contrast to those texts which have been composed by our contemporary people from different fragments which often even do not correspond with each other. While performing those ceremonies and rituals you will feel the fascinating energy of those texts.

Large state temples in ancient Egypt were vast agricultural estates, with interests in mining, trading, and other economic activities. The temple itself served as the mansion or palace of the deity to whom the estate belonged, and much of the ritual in temples was devoted to offering a representative sample of goods to the gods. After ritual performances, produce was paid as wages to priests and temple staff and presented as offerings to private mortuary establishments. This redistribution became a daily ritual in which many basic necessities of life for elite Egyptians were produced. This book evaluates the influence of common temple rituals not only on the day to day lives of ancient Egyptians, but also on their special events, economics, and politics. Author Katherine Eaton argues that a study of these daily rites ought to be the first step in analyzing the structure of more complex societal processes.

This volume contains a series of provocative essays that explore expressions of magic and ritual power in the ancient world. The essays are authored by leading scholars in the fields of Egyptology, ancient Near Eastern studies, the Hebrew Bible, Judaica, classical Greek and Roman studies, early Christianity and patristics, and Coptology. Throughout the book the essays examine the terms employed in descriptions of ancient magic. From this examination comes a clarification of magic as a polemical term of exclusion but also an understanding of the classical Egyptian and early Greek conceptions of magic as a more neutral category of inclusion. This book should prove to be foundational for future scholarly studies of ancient magic and ritual power. This publication has also been published in paperback, please click here for details.

Savage Energies written by Walter Burkert and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-04 with History categories.

We often think of classical Greek society as a model of rationality and order. Yet as Walter Burkert demonstrates in these influential essays on the history of Greek religion, there were archaic, savage forces surging beneath the outwardly calm face of classical Greece, whose potentially violent and destructive energies, Burkert argues, were harnessed to constructive ends through the interlinked uses of myth and ritual. For example, in a much-cited essay on the Athenian religious festival of the Arrephoria, Burkert uncovers deep connections between this strange nocturnal ritual, in which two virgin girls carried sacred offerings into a cave and later returned with something given to them there, and tribal puberty initiations by linking the festival with the myth of the daughters of Kekrops. Other chapters explore the origins of tragedy in blood sacrifice; the role of myth in the ritual of the new fire on Lemnos; the ties between violence, the Athenian courts, and the annual purification of the divine image; and how failed political propaganda entered the realm of myth at the time of the Persian Wars.
