“We have passed through the eye of the needle!” my father was fond of saying. And indeed we had. Now, after four years and four months of German occupation, we had survived. Neither morality nor faith had anything to do with our survival but survive we did. Money, sex and luck all had a hand in it. Germany, the most powerful nation in Europe, had decreed that all Jews were to be exterminated, not only the adults but especially the children. Once the children had been murdered, the “Jewish Question” would have been resolved once and for all. The Allied armies had finally swept through Belgium and liberated us after we had spent twenty-seven months in hiding. Our parents, Hilaire and Frieda Rosenberg went about trying to resume some semblance of family life; my sister Ruth and I would be going back to school after nearly three years of interrupted studies. It would take years for me to fathom the enormity of what we had been through, to understand why we did survive. Our parents were gamblers and people they knew through the Casinos hid us. Hilaire made large amounts of money in black-market dealings with the Germans so we could pay for the cupidity of those who would hide us. Frieda had an affair with an SS officer who warned us when we had to go into hiding. After attending the 1991 Conference of Hidden Children in New York City I knew that this unusual story of survival had to be written. Thus began a journey to a second liberation, an understanding that although they had been less than perfect parents, Hilaire and Frieda did all they humanly could do to ensure the survival of this nucleus of our family.

Some of us are in the habit of thinking about what we know; what we have experienced and are experiencing; and what we would like to focus on more deeply. While this habit is evidenced in differing ways it is clearly a process that seems to form part of the essence of who human beings are. And there is plenty to think about every day. Furthermore, this habit of thinking about life, has resulting in many interesting inventions, movements, and even inspiration about life. This is important. For when we are limited in our ability to engage in self-reflection, we stand a chance of becoming unbalanced. For it is possible to have what might be called a poverty in thinking and making sense of those thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. While it is also possible to think so much that one is stuck and in a ruminating rut that can cause disorders of the mind, heart, and soul. While it is not usually good to have a sparsity of thoughts and experiences it is also not usually good to be overwhelmed by them What is good is to have an appropriate abundance of wonderment that leads to stimulation of person and community. And so here we are – at the beginning of a book consisting of many pages containing thoughts about what the author and others know; what she and others have experienced; and some things many would like to focus on more deeply. And this time the material will be presented in a format similar to the previous publication, One Lesson at a Time 1– as a model for structured journaling, including content for contemplation, and hopefully rich sources for reframing memory, and furthering inspiration that leads to growth and development on the reader’s personal and perhaps communal levels.

Keorapetse Kgositsile, South Africa's second poet laureate, was a political activist, teacher, and poet. He lived, wrote, and taught in the United States for a significant part of his life and collaborated with many influential and highly regarded writers, including Gwendolyn Brooks, Sterling Plumpp, Dudley Randall, and George Kent. This comprehensive collection of Kgositsile's new and collected works spans almost fifty years. During his lifetime, Kgositsile dedicated the majority of his poems to people or movements, documenting the struggle against racism, Western imperialism, and racial capitalism, and celebrating human creativity, particularly music, as an inherent and essential aspect of the global liberation struggle. This collection demonstrates the commitment to equality, justice, and egalitarianism fostered by cultural workers within the mass liberation movement. As the introduction notes, Kgositsile had an "undisputed ability to honor the truth in all its complexity, with a musicality that draws on the repository of memory and history, rebuilt through the rhythms and cadences of jazz." Addressing themes of Black solidarity, displacement, and anticolonialism, Kgositsile's prose is fiery, witty, and filled with conviction. This collection showcases a voice that wanted to change the world--and did.

Thirty-six essays from 2000 to 2009 chronicling America's struggles with terrorism and freedom. The first of these essays was written over a year before the events of 9/11/01. The last was written in 2009. The second was written the day of 9/11 and published the next week. These essays and articles are a kind of chronological examination of U.S. involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq and the consequences for life here in the United States post 9/11. You may judge for yourself with the hindsight of history how accurate were my analyses, predictions, and descriptions of these events of the past decade and a half. Those who forget the lessons of history...

The Blockchain Government written by Michael Mathiesen and has been published by Michael Mathiesen this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-04 with Political Science categories.

It's obvious to many by now that our antiquated method of doing the business of government is no longer working. The two party system is a great way for politicians to establish a long, very long-lasting and very profitable position for themselves. They learn how to posture and pose and make tidy little speeches full of promises and age-old wisdom, but gets nothing accomplished. Is it any wonder when we know that the system was designed by people who only knew horse-and-buggy technology. When our system of government was created there was no electricity anywhere on the planet. There were no telephones and of course the INTERNET would astound them and confound them and call it the work of Satan. The best of our species at the kind, who were also slaveowners put forward a kind of government that allowed for slavery to remain in business. Even though their basic document has been altered 27 times, it is still fundamentally flawed and relies on only horse-and-buggy thinking to solve our problems. Most laws take decades to formulate and achieve a consensus and then come to a final vote in Congress, but not until it has been watered down and changed so many times, the new laws are outdated at the minute of their adoption and usually cause new problems that will also take decades to solve. As we write these words of introduction to The Blockchain Government, we are on the brink of total financial collapse. Violence of all kinds rules over our streets. Six college students are murdered. Hundreds of other innocent Americans are slain every day on the streets of this country. Inflation is rampant. People are going homeless by the thousands every day. Another pandemic is raging. The forest fires in 15 states are raging out of control for months. There is a drought everywhere, except in the East where there are record floods. People are fearful. AND, 6 out of 10 people know that the Climate Crisis will greatly impact their lives. The other 4 are just sticking their head in the sand. Throughout history - whenever great turmoil, uncertainty and fear arises, a form of dictatorship always arises because in a panic people are willing to forego their rights and freedoms in exchange for a little more security. This is too great a cost. Perhaps it is time to turn to something that we invented just a few short years ago and took to like ducks in water. The Internet is something that we know and love and is an expected utility that we must have every day like heat and light, food and water. Why not trust the latest developments of the Internet to rule over us all and give us the solution to problems PRIOR to them running out of control? The Blockchain is the most secure form of information that the world has ever known. Not perfect, but as close to perfect as anything human-built can get and getting closer to perfection every day. We can trust it to formulate suggestions to common national problems. The best solutions are pushed up by the Community. Then, we vote on the best proposals. The whole process of solving a problem may take as little as ONE DAY or as long as a month or two, rarely any longer, depending on the complexity of the problem and its corresponding solution. Our voting data can not be corrupted or compromised because in the Blockchain there are thousands of computers in the Blockchain who back up every single bit of information. Changing only one computer cannot happen because the others in the network, block any unauthorized attempts to alter the information. It can be done, but only with the commitment of millions of dollars and thousands of workers all dedicated to doing something that does them no good because in our final version of the Blockchain Government - everything in the Blockchain will be backed up by a paper trail. Our money says on it - "In God We Trust." I say: "In the Blockchain, We Trust!"

Every Other Monday written by John Kasich and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-06-15 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

This bestselling book by GOP presidential candidate John Kasich offers an honest, insightful, and revealing portrait of the man called by the New York Times, “the only plausible choice for Republicans tired of the extremism and inexperience on display in this race.” Where do you go when the water rises? For more than twenty-five years, starting long before he was a Republican presidential candidate facing down Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, before he was twice elected Governor of Ohio, John Kasich has sought the answer to this question and to many of life’s most fundamental challenges in an unlikely place: his twice-a-month lunches with an irreverent, thoughtful, and spirited circle of guys who are members of a Bible study group. Every other Monday over lunch at an Italian restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, Kasich and half a dozen friends use the stories of the Good Book as a launching pad to discuss big ideas like integrity, justice, ambition, as well as the small trials and triumphs of daily life. This group, in reaching for life’s biggest mysteries while standing firmly rooted in the everyday, became a cornerstone of Kasich’s life, one to which he consistently turns when the waters threaten to rise. Full of funny and fascinating anecdotes and poignant memories drawn from Kasich’s personal and professional life, Every Other Monday is an honest look at how to build faith, find strength, and stay resilient—even during the most challenging of circumstances.
