मैं इंसानियत में बसता हूँ / लोग मुझे मजहबों में ढूढ़ते है ||’ जिन्दगी को आसान कर देने वाला ये फलसफा ही 'मंगला से शयन तक’ का मुख्य आधार है जिसे डॉ. अचला नागर ने इतने रोचक अन्दरिब में कह दिया कि उपन्यास कहीं भी बोझिल नहीं हो पाता । इस उपन्यास में वर्तमान और देश के विभाजन उपरान्त के तो ट्रैक एक साथ कहानियाँ सुना रहे हैं । वर्तमान में शहर के जाने माने और लोकप्रिय गायक-संगीतकार उस्ताद रमजान अली खान जिन्हें सभी प्यार से नन्हें भाई कहते हैं, जो खुद को मजहबे इन्सानियत का नुमाइन्दा बतलाते हैं क्योंकि उन्हें जन्म दिया एक मुसलमान माँ ने, अपना दूध पिला के जिन्दा रखा एक सिख महिला प्रकाश कौर ने, और पाल-पोस कर संगीत के इस मुकाम तक पहुँचाया हिन्दू महिला पद्ममश्री तारा शर्मा ने जो हालात की भंवर में डूबते उतराते एक ख्यातिप्राप्त गायिका बन गयी थी । नन्हें रोज़ की तरह प्रात: पाँच बजे तैयार हो के मंगला आरती के लिए हाथ में टॉर्च लिये सड़क पर निकल आये । दो घर छोड़ के ही पण्डित विष्णुराम का घर था। यहाँ पहुंचते ही तो श्रीराम क्रो पुकारते, और फिर दोनों मित्र साथ-साथ आगे बढ़ते । आज एकाएक ही नन्हें कहने लगे, ‘सच कहूँ तो ईश्वर और अल्लाह, मन्दिर और मस्जिद, पूजा और इबादत में फर्क ही क्या है । अब देख सुबह से लेकर रात तक पाँच नमाजें पढ़ी जाती है, ऐसे ही ‘मंगला से शयन तक' पाँच आरतियाँ की जाती हैं। कुल मिला के मतलब तो ईश्वर और अल्लाह को याद करना ही हुआ न? ‘श्रीराम चलते-चलते ठिठक गया, नन्हें का मुँह देखते बोला, ‘क्या लाख रुपये की बात तुने की है, वाह... काश हर कोई इस बात को समझ सके।‘ और बातें करते हुए दोनों मन्दिर पहुँच ही गये ।
