"To the general public, Andy Warhol is known as a painter of famous faces - from Liz and Marilyn to his own ever-changing self-portrait. Less familiar are the portraits Warhol made throughout his career of socialites, art dealers, collectors, politicians, and a variety of contemporary cult figures, mostly commissioned work that helped finance his other wide-ranging artistic activities. Featuring more than 300 portraits made from the early 1960s until the artist's death in 1987, Andy Warhol Portraits is the first book to provide a comprehensive view of this overlooked body of work, which includes such well-known twentieth-century icons as Jackie Kennedy, Mick Jagger, Liza Minnelli, and Queen Elizabeth, as well as many paintings largely unknown even to avid Warhol followers. With contextualizing essays by longtime Warhol collaborator Tony Shafrazi and art critics Carter Ratcliff and Robert Rosenblum, Andy Warhol portraits is a face-book of the amazing cast of characters that populated Warhol's fascinating, star-studded, and, at times, sordid world." - inside front cover.

Between 1982 and 1987 Andy Warhol created 503 works composed of black-and-white photographic prints stitched together with thread. Indebted to his earlier silkscreen paintings, these works were also the result of lifelong photographic exploration and a prolific decade when the artist shot over 124,000 frames. In an effort to interpret Warhol's enigmatic photographic series, this study contextualizes them within the history of photography and the art world of the 1980s. William Ganis demonstrates how Warhol manipulates the tenets of modern art photography to create ambiguity in the perception of the images.

Andy Warhol's daily practice of photography during the last decade of his life, examined and documented for the first time. “A picture means I know where I was every minute. That's why I take pictures.” —Andy Warhol From 1976 until his death in 1987, Andy Warhol was never without his camera. He snapped photos at discos, dinner parties, flea markets, and wrestling matches. Friends, boyfriends, business associates, socialites, celebrities, passers by: all captured Warhol's attention—at least for the moment he looked through the lens. In a way, Warhol's daily photography practice anticipated our current smart phone habits—our need to record our friends, our families, and our food. Warhol printed only about 17 percent of the 130,000 exposures he left on contact sheets. In 2014, Stanford's Cantor Center for the Arts acquired the 3,600 contact sheets from the Warhol Foundation. This book examines and documents for the first time these contact sheets and photographs—Warhol's final body of work Peggy Phelan and Richard Meyer analyze the contact sheets, never before seen, and their importance in Warhol's oeuvre. Accompanying their text and other essays are reproductions of contact sheets, photographs, and other visual material. The contact sheets present Warhol's point of view, unedited; we know where he was every minute because a photograph remembers it. Copublished with the Cantor Arts Center

Photo Revolution written by Nancy Burns and has been published by Marquand Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with Art categories.

"Photo Revolution: Andy Warhol to Cindy Sherman will investigate how and why the 1960s and '70s became a vital era for the ascension of photography to the status of fine art, arguing that critical to the acceptance of both Pop Art and fine photography was a newfound acceptance of multiples. Prior to Pop Art, art media that produced "copies," like in prints and photographs, were perpetually undervalued compared to "original" objects like paintings. However, with the appropriation of photo-based imagery by artists like Andy Warhol and Tom Wesselmann, Pop Art and photography developed a symbiotic relationship as Pop Art certified the aesthetic importance of photography through its appropriation. Using a variety of media derived mostly from the Worcester Art Museum's permanent collection, Photo Revolution: Andy Warhol to Cindy Sherman investigates Pop Art, Conceptual Art, and emerging photo-based art forms, primarily through the lens of photography. It seeks to illustrate how photographs leap from second-tier status to the driving force behind contemporary art production with the emergence of artists like Cindy Sherman, Nan Goldin, and Martha Rosler. The book will also illustrate how photography became entrenched in art production globally, as seen in the photomontages of British conceptual artist John Stezaker, conceptual work by Polish video artist and photographer Andrej Paruzel, and in the work of Japanese documentary photographer Hiromi Tuschida"--

Warhol's life-long infatuation with glamour and the media provided the touchstone for all his work, from his earliest shoe advertisements to the most recent celebrity portraits, all of which can be seen here. Presents a brief biography of Andy Warhol and discusses his works and their influence on the art world.
