La conoscenza vedica è la fonte di ogni esoterismo. La gnosi, l’ermetismo, il sapere egizio, la kabbalà, sono tutti rami dell’immenso albero dei Veda. Ma studiare questo albero per intero oggi è praticamente impossibile. In particolare, l’approccio europeo nei confronti della letteratura vedica è assai problematico: da un lato vi sono schemi mentali difficilmente superabili per cogliere la visione dei Purāna e delle Upanişad, visione che richiede, socraticamente, l’abbandono di ogni nostro pregiudizio; dall’altro lato vi è la consapevolezza di trovarsi di fronte ad un sapere e ad una civiltà molto più evoluta e consapevole di quella moderna e tale aspetto mina non poco la presunta superiorità della cultura occidentale. Il termine stesso Upanişad significa “sedere ai piedi del maestro”. Questi “testi” sono stati messi in forma scritta attorno al VII-VI secolo a. C., ma per millenni si è sempre trattato di una conoscenza orale, confidenziale, trasmessa, appunto, da maestro a discepolo. In questi saggi vengono confrontati i miti vedici e puranici con quelli greci e biblici; il lettore troverà un’unica sorgente della conoscenza e una tradizione perenne che da sempre si rinnova.
