Forests are essential to human and animal survival. Trees produce the oxygen animals need to live. They also provide homes for animals and resources for people. However, Earth's forests are under attack. Deforestation is caused by fires, clear cutting, logging, and climate change. Forests are important to mitigating climate change because they suck up harmful carbon dioxide. Without forests, many plant and animal species would be at risk of becoming endangered or extinct. Complete with manageable text and stunning photographs of forests, both healthy and threatened, this book covers essential concepts featured in elementary earth science curricula.

Rain forests cover approximately only 6 percent of the Earth’s surface, but they are home to millions of plant and animal species. This lively biodiversity is in danger due to deforestation. Many rain forest animals are threatened as a result of this habitat loss. Readers are introduced to animals such as spider monkeys—several species of which are endangered. Chapters will explain what is being done to preserve the world’s rain forests and what still needs to be done to protect its biodiversity.

World On Fire written by Mark Rowlands and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021 with Animal culture categories.

The philosopher Mark Rowlands takes a novel perspective on the problem of climate change and how to address it. With energy consumption at the core of the issue, he claims climate, extinction, and pestilence as three epoch-defining environmental issues of our time. Rowlands proposes a single solution to all three: breaking our collective habit of eating animals. Bringing to bear analytic rigor and empirical data, Rowlands argues that reversing the industrial farming of animals for our consumption will both significantly reduce energy emissions and allow for free space to aggressively reforest.

Recent decades have seen unprecedented growth in the scale and intensity of industrial forestry. Directly and indirectly, it has degraded the wildlife and ecological integrity of these tropical forests, prompting a need to evaluate the impact of current forest management practices and reconsider how best to preserve the integrity of the biosphere. Synthesizing the body of knowledge of leading scientists and professionals in tropical forest ecology and management, this book's thirty chapters examine in detail the interplay between timber harvesting and wildlife, from hunted and protected habitats to invertebrates and large mammal species. Collectively, the contributors suggest that better management is pivotal to the maintenance of the tropics' valuable biodiversity, arguing that we must realize that tropical forests harbor the majority (perhaps 70 to 80 percent) of the world's animal species. Further, they suggest modifications to existing practices that can ensure a better future for our valuable resources.

Life After Logging written by E. Meijaard and has been published by CIFOR this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Animals categories.

This book presents a technical review of ecological and life history information on a range of Bornean wildlife species, aimed at identifying what makes these species sensitive to timber harvesting practices and associated impacts. It addresses three audiences: 1) those involved in assessing and regulating timber harvesting activities in Southeast Asia, 2) those involved in trying to achieve conservation goals in the region, and 3) those undertaking research to improve multipurpose forest management. This book shows that forest management can be improved in many simple ways to allow timber extraction and wildlife conservation to be more compatible than under current practices. The recommendations can also be valuable to the many governmental and non-governmental organisations promoting sustainable forest management and eco-labelling. Finally, it identifies a number of shortcomings and gaps in knowledge, which the hope can interest the scientific community and promote further research. This review is, an important scientific step toward understanding and improving sustainable forestry practices for long-term biodiversity conservation. Even in the short term, however, significant improvements can be made to improve both conservation and the efficiency of forest management, and there is no need to delay action due to a perceived lack of information. In the longer term it is expected that the recommendations from this review will be implemented, and that further research will continue to help foster an acceptable balance among the choices needed to maintain healthy wildlife populations and biodiversity in a productive forest estate.
