Anna came home from school crying every day. The kids at school would make fun of her because she prayed over her food. Anna came from a Christian home, where they believed in thanking God and blessing their food before they ate. Deborah, Annas mother, didnt quite yet know what she was going to do. She thought maybe she would talk to the principal because not only did the kids laugh, but also a girl named Tabitha bullied her every day. Tabitha always told her she was ugly because she wore glasses and wore funny clothes. Anna always wore nice dresses, and Tabitha made fun of that. She told Anna she was a nerd and called her four eyes. All Anna would do was cry and run away. Sometimes, the other kids would laugh. But her best friend, Julie, tried to console her.

This eBook edition of "Anna Karenina (Annotated Maude Translation)" has been formatted to the highest digital standards and adjusted for readability on all devices. Widely considered a pinnacle in realist fiction, Tolstoy considered Anna Karenina his first real novel and Dostoevsky declared it to be "flawless as a work of art". His opinion was shared by Vladimir Nabokov, who especially admired "the flawless magic of Tolstoy's style", and by William Faulkner, who described the novel as "the best ever written". Plot: A bachelor, Vronsky is willing to marry her if she would agree to leave her husband Karenin, a government official, but she is vulnerable to the pressures of Russian social norms, her own insecurities and Karenin's indecision. Although Vronsky eventually takes Anna to Europe where they can be together, they have trouble making friends. Back in Russia, she is shunned, becoming further isolated and anxious, while Vronsky pursues his social life. Despite Vronsky's reassurances she grows increasingly possessive and paranoid about his imagined infidelity. Count Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy (1828 – 1910), usually referred to in English as Leo Tolstoy, was a Russian writer who is regarded as one of the greatest authors of all time. Aylmer Maude (1858-1938) and Louise Shanks Maude (1855-1939) is highly considered by scholars.

It’s 1941, near the town of Southampton, Ontario, and five young sisters are reeling from an accident that killed their mother and severely injured their father. With help from their aunt, the sisters strive to keep the family farm operating as World War II rages on. But the Ross sisters are not just facing the challenges of caring for their father and managing financial pressures. As Anna, the eldest, begins to fall for a young English pilot training in Ontario, she faces unwanted advances from the jealous farmhand. Gossip, discrimination, and harassment brew around the young women as emotional and physical threats grow. Although each of the sisters is struggling with the hardships of wartime and grieving their mother, they try to support one another when confronted by rigid small-town mores and unforeseen perils. When women’s voices are not respected or believed, is the bond between sisters strong enough to withstand tragedy and war? Little Women meets #MeToo in this rich historical novel about adversity and resilience on the Canadian home front of World War II.

In this book, while the author is translating his father’s Greek manuscripts written some thirty years ago, he describes life, suffering, and struggle to survive in the cruel world of the twentieth century. His father and mother both born in Greek cities of Asia Minor escaped the Turkish brutality and the Hellenic Holocaust of 1916 to 1922. They came to Greece in 1922 and survived the difficult and inhumane conditions of the refugee settlements. There they met, were married some time in 1935, and after losing their first child to poverty and conditions unfit to human dignity, they brought to this world in 1937 the author of this book, who was followed by seven other children. The author and five of the siblings are still alive today.
