Lei purtroppo non ce l’ha fatta. Isabelle Caro soffriva di anoressia nervosa sin da quando aveva 13 anni. Con il suo libro e la sua campagna pubblicitaria anche a mezzo delle foto di Oliviero Toscani nel 2007, intendeva aiutare se stessa a capire e le altre (la percentuale femminile nell’anoressia è molto alta), a non caderci. Nel 2006 era arrivata a pesare 25 chili e cadde in coma. Divenne famosa dopo aver posato nuda proprio a mezzo della successiva e controversa campagna pubblicitaria. Morì il 17 novembre 2010, di ritorno da un viaggio aereo proveniente da Tokyo dopo circa due settimane di permanenza all'hôpital Xavier-Bichat di Parigi, dove era stata ricoverata appena arrivata; aveva 29 anni e pesava 31 chili per 1,64 di altezza. La notizia della morte giunse soltanto il 29 dicembre successivo. Il padre di Isabelle, Christian Caro, non accettò che la causa della morte, fosse attribuita a una generica polmonite, e denunciò l'ospedale per omicidio colposo. Il 4 gennaio 2011 la madre di Isabelle, Marie Caro, si è tolta la vita. Isabelle diceva di sé: «Ho avuto un'infanzia molto complicata, molto difficile, molto dolorosa. La più grande fobia di mia madre era che sarei cresciuta. Trascorreva il suo tempo a prendermi le misure. Mi faceva indossare vestiti di una bambina di 4 anni perché rifiutava che io crescessi. Lei non mi permetteva di uscire perché aveva sentito che l'aria fresca faceva crescere i bambini e per questo mi teneva chiusa in casa. È stato molto traumatico.» Nel 2009 uscì il libro autobiografico scritto dalla stessa Caro, dal titolo “La ragazza che non voleva crescere”.

Una delle mie esperienze di vita più bella è stata quella vissuta attraverso lo studio della sociologia. Un sogno che portavo con me da anni e non effettuato allo scopo di lavorare/guadagnare (per quello ho insegnato disegno e storia dell'arte, andando poi regolarmente in pensione), ma proprio per comprendere tutta una serie di relazioni nuove tra studio e vita. La mia laurea in sociologia l’ho conseguita presso l’Università di Salerno. 19/11/ Anno 2003 110/110 con lode. A questa ha fatto seguito la Laurea magistrale in Teoria della comunicazione audiovisivi e società della conoscenza presso l’Università di Salerno nel 2011. Nulla di strano: sono iscritta all'albo dei giornalisti della Campania dal 1980 e per il mio "mestiere" aggiornarsi è un obbligo morale, oltre ad essere una necessità materiale. Debbo ringraziare l'Università di Salerno (ottimo Campus!), partendo dalla segreteria (che mi permetteva di risolvere una gran parte della burocrazia on line e per il resto, de visu, tutti preparati e gentili), ai giovani colleghi, che non mi hanno mai ghettizzata come matusa, anzi, mi hanno permesso un interscambio di notizie, chiacchierate, consigli etcc, fino a giungere (come è ovvio), agli insegnanti, molto preparati, i quali mi hanno aperto mondi di conoscenza cui fino a quel momento non avevo avuto modo di partecipare. Questi pochi appunti (tra i tanti scritti per tesine d’esame, per ricerche personali e studio), li pubblico allo scopo di rivivere così una microscopica parte delle mie sperimentazioni. Il presente lavoro ha lo scopo di esaminare e approfondire il rapporto tra il corpo femminile, la malattia (isteria e anoressia) e le cause scatenanti la malattia. Nel Medioevo uomini e donne vivevano il digiuno come uno strumento di purificazione dalle tentazioni e dai peccati mondani, al punto che si parlò di santa anoressia o di digiuni ascetici, capaci di elevare lo spirito al di sopra dei bisogni della carne. L’anoressia è il sintomo di un forte disagio ed è stata oggetto di varie interpretazioni: attraverso il dominio esercitato sul corpo, l’anoressica crede di trarre la sua forma di benessere, ma soprattutto la titolarità assoluta della propria vita. Questo meccanismo scatta in Fosca, creatura mortifera e dalla sessualità oscura, protagonista dell’omonimo romanzo di uno degli autori simbolo della Scapigliatura italiana, Igino Ugo Tarchetti. Se da un lato la nevrosi diventa la metafora usata da Tarchetti per descrivere l’ideale patologico dell’amore in cui il carnefice è donna, dall’altro, l’anoressia manifesta il disagio di tante altre donne incastrate in rapporti d’amore sbagliati, permeati dal possesso, dall’incapacità di svincolarsi dall’autorità dell’Altro.
