Here we have a book unique in the annals of horror literature. This is a book where the stories are penned, mostly, by fortean researchers. For those who are unfamiliar with the term, 'fortean' refers to the works of Charles Hoy Fort (August 6, 1874 - May 3, 1932). Fort was an American writer and researcher into strange phenomena. Fort collected newspaper reports of sightings of strange creatures, weird light phenomena, falls of fish and other creatures, and poltergeist outbreaks to name but a few. Fort realized that mainstream science was acting somewhat like a fundamentalist religion and that any anomalous data that did not fit into the current scientific paradigm was simply swept under the carpet. Fort called this 'damned data'. He published his findings in four books: The Book of the Damned (1919), New Lands (1923), Lo! (1932) and Wild Talents (1932), all of which are still in print today. Fort has influenced modern research with magazines like Fortean Times, which has been recording weird happenings since 1973, and the Centre for Fortean Zoology, the world's only full time mystery animal investigation organization. The publishing wing of the latter is responsible for this book.

Music soothes the savage beast...or so they say. But in this tome of terror, music is more than just a placebo for the masses. It is the dark divination of witches, the motivation for revenge, and the power to change the mind, soul, and body of every creature unlucky enough to hear it. In it, you'll find possessed rock stars, killer radio stations, and concerts from the depths of hell. Over 300 pages of terrifying, bizarre stories about the hypnotic power of music and what happens when it gets into the wrong hands. Featuring: "Tears Like Rain," by Tim Waggoner, "The Brazen Bull," by Sofia Ajram, "Oil of Angels,' by Gemma Files, "This Loaded Gun of a Song Stuck in My Head," by Paul Michael Anderson, "Pack Up Your Sins and Go To The Devil," by Elis Montgomery, "Everybody Loves My Baby," by Mercedes M. INFINITY IN DEATH Vienna, 1908 Gabriele Ziegler is a young art student who becomes infatuated with charismatic archeologist Dr. Emeryk Quintillus. Only too late does she realize his true designs on her. He is obsessed with resurrecting Cleopatra and has retained the famed artist Gustav Klimt to render Gabriele as the Queen of the Nile, using ashes from Cleopatra’s mummy mixed with the paint. The result is a lifelike portrait emitting an aura of unholy evil . . . Vienna, 2018 The Mortimer family has moved into Quintillus’s former home, Villa Dürnstein. In its basement they find an original Klimt masterpiece—a portrait of Cleopatra art scholars never knew existed. But that’s not all that resides within the villa’s vault. Nine-year-old Heidi Mortimer tells her parents that a strange man lives there. Quintillus’s desire to be with Cleopatra transcends death. His spirit will not rest until he has brought her back from the netherworld. Even if he has to sacrifice the soul of a child . . . Praise for Catherine Cavendish’s Wrath of the Ancients “Cavendish has constructed such an elaborate plot—combined with painstaking research into Egyptian mythology—that the fantastical events taking place seem to literally ‘come alive’ on the pages before you.” —horrorafterdark.com “Cavendish offers up an atmospheric gothic horror tale that effortlessly blends together history and the supernatural to create an unsettling horror story that will appeal to almost any horror fan.” —thehorrorbookshelf.com
