Evolution Vs Creationism written by Scientific American Editors and has been published by Scientific American this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-02-06 with Science categories.

Charles Robert Darwin’s 1859 landmark book, "On the Origin of Species," introduced the theory of biological evolution to the masses and kicked off a controversy of ideas that persists to this day. Darwin knew he would face religious opposition to a theory of creation that differed from the story in Genesis, but he probably didn’t imagine how long that opposition would last. More than 150 years after "Origin," the fight over teaching evolution rages on. Creationists, or those who hold the belief that the universe and all life was made by divine creator, have tried to use a myriad of tactics either to ban the teaching of evolution entirely or to have creationism and/or intelligent design taught alongside it in public schools. In this eBook, "Evolution vs. Creationism: Inside the Controversy," we take a close look at the rise of Darwinism, the arguments and opposition by the creationist movement, whether faith and science can coexist and what could happen if the U.S. continues on an anti-science trajectory. In “The Origin of Darwinism,” author C.D. Darlington provides historical context by looking at how the work of other scientific pioneers laid the foundation for "Origin" and how Darwin’s own ideas “evolved” over time. “A Witness at the Scopes Trial” is a fascinating first-hand account of the 1925 court case where Tennessee biology teacher John Thomas Scopes was tried for teaching evolution. John Rennie’s “15 Answers to Creationists Nonsense” is a thoughtful, concise refutation of the main arguments against evolution, such as “Evolution is just a theory.” On the flip side, in “Should Science Speak to Faith?” scientists Laurence M. Krauss and Richard Dawkins discuss whether science and faith can coexist. With this eBook, we went from deep in our archives to current events to examine the revolutionary impact of Darwin’s theory and the controversy that continues today.

Among The Creationists written by Jason Rosenhouse and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-04-02 with Religion categories.

Why do so many Americans reject the modern theory of evolution? Why does creationism, thoroughly refuted by scientists, retain such popularity among the public? Is the perceived conflict between evolution and Christianity genuine, or is it merely an illusion peculiar to Protestant fundamentalism? Seeking answers to these questions, mathematician Jason Rosenhouse became a regular attendee at creationist conferences and other gatherings. After ten years of attending events like the giant Creation Mega-Conference in Lynchburg, Virginia, and visiting sites like the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky, and after hundreds of surprisingly friendly conversations with creationists of varying stripes, he has emerged with a story to tell, a story that goes well beyond the usual stereotypes of Bible-thumping fanatics railing against coldly rational scientists. Through anecdotes, personal reflections, and scientific and philosophical discussion, Rosenhouse presents a more down-to-earth picture of modern creationism and the people who espouse it. He is neither polemical nor insulting, but he does not pull punches when he spots an error in the logical or scientific reasoning of creationists, especially when they wander into his own field, mathematics. Along the way, he also tells the story of his own nonbeliever's attempt to understand a major aspect of American religion. Forced to wrestle with his views about God and evolution, Rosenhouse found himself drawn into a new world of ideas previously unknown to him, arriving at a sharper understanding of the reality of science-versus-religion disputes, and how these debates look to those beyond the ivory tower. A personal memoir of one scientist's attempt to come to grips with this controversy-by immersing himself in the culture of the anti-evolutionists-Among the Creationists is a fair, fresh, and insightful account of the modern American debate over Darwinism.

The Scientific Case Against Scientific Creationism written by Jon P. Alston and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-09 with Religion categories.

Sociologist Jon P. Alston offers a unique and clear analysis of the weaknesses of scientific creationism and intelligent design by identifying what creationists say when they reject evidence for evolution. He demonstrates how scientific creationists accept non-scientific statements that contradict established scientific knowledge. Acceptance of anti-evolutionary knowledge also demands acceptance of a literal six-day creation and other statements contradicting scientific findings. Few persons have read so closely the writings of scientific creationists to illustrate how anti-scientific anti-evolutionists become when they criticize the fact of evolution. Creationists are forced to develop "just-so" stories to defend their literal interpretations of Biblical scripture. Alston finds creationists cannot defend their religious beliefs using established scientific methodologies and principles.

Revolution Against Evolution written by Douglas B. Sharp and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-01-16 with categories.

This, the fifth edition of a classic book, covers the modern revolution against Darwinian evolution. It was written by a long-time veteran of the movement pushing back against evolution. Sharp had the foresight to pioneer a website in 1995, www.rae.org, appropriately called Revolution against Evolution when the use of this format was just in its infancy. Sharp's book covers, not only the problems with evolution, but also some of the problems with some of the creation alternatives. Creationism is a movement involving many diverse people, not all who agree with the details. Consequently, different schools of thought called models exist in the movement. For example, he covers the various Flood models that attempt to explain the global Flood of Noah's day. Although disagreement exists on the creation models, large agreement exists on the major scientific problems with evolution. Sharp does a good job summarizing this area. He shows that evolution [Neo-Darwinism] is based on only two pillars, genetic variety produced by mutations that are selected by the process called survival of the fittest. The problem with this foundation is the vast majority of mutations are near neutral, harmful or deleterious. It is a very rare mutation that is clearly beneficial. Furthermore, no selector exists selecting the best organisms as the natural selection theory implies. Survival depends on time, chance and fortuitous events, in short, luck. Before any selection can occur, functional genetic variety must first exist, a problem that existed in Darwin's day and still exists today. Sharp also deals with theistic evolution, showing that this worldview is a compromise based on the factious belief that evolution has been scientifically confirmed, and is a viable alternative to creationism. Only when Darwinism has been empirically verified do we need to be concerned with explaining how it could be explained in harmony with the Scriptures. Sharp shows theistic evolution cannot be supported by the scriptures, nor by science. The two worldviews are in irreconcilable conflict. In short, if the facts and science are carefully considered, Darwinism cannot be defended. The only reason it is still around is because it is the worldview of the atheists and secularists, and aggressively defended by the courts. Without the legal defense by the courts it would not continue to thrive. If Darwinism could survive on its own, it would not need the legal defense of organizations, such as the National Center for Science Education, which claims it is the "only national organization that specializes in defending the teaching of evolution against creationist attacks. Let it defend itself in the court of public opinion instead of relying on lawyers and specious claims that one side of the debate is religions and the other side is science. Both sides of the debate have science elements, and both sides have worldview implications. Something is grievously wrong when both sides of a scientific question is prevented by law from being debated in taxpayer-supported public schools.

The Failures Of Mathematical Anti Evolutionism written by Jason Rosenhouse and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-05-12 with Science categories.

Anti-scientific misinformation has become a serious problem on many fronts, including vaccinations and climate change. One of these fronts is the persistence of anti-evolutionism, which has recently been given a superficially professional gloss in the form of the intelligent design movement. Far from solely being of interest to researchers in biology, anti-evolutionism must be recognized as part of a broader campaign with a conservative religious and political agenda. Much of the rhetorical effectiveness of anti-evolutionism comes from its reliance on seemingly precise mathematical arguments. This book, the first of its kind to be written by a mathematician, discusses and refutes these arguments. Along the way, it also clarifies common misconceptions about both biology and mathematics. Both lay audiences and professionals will find the book to be accessible and informative.
