Carnelutti, excelente escritor no campo do direito, nesta obra entrou no campo filosófico e especulativo (...). Entusiasta da matéria penal, estudou o relativo direito, com paixão e interesse, e entrou no campo nebuloso do espírito humano, procurandopôr em luz apectos individuais, generalizando-os a todos os inquilinos das prisões e aos não-inquilinos. Mistura, com uma análise toda particular, a arte no sentido clássico da expressão (pintura, escultura, música, poesia, literatura, etc.) com a arte de quem emite uma lei. O legislador escreve uma lei que deverá ser obedecida, caso contrário, transgredindo-a, incorrer na pena, portanto ele pensa e analisa a conduta do homem na sociedade para permitir a convivência pacífica entre os indivíduos. Nessa tarefa jurídica, o legislador é frio, nele domina o rígido espírito da lei, que, como se costuma dizer, é cega. O legislador pensa com o cérebro e escreve sem emoção. "Dura lex, sed lex". O artista sente com a alma, com o espírito no qual domina o estro que lhe faz criar a obra de arte. Dando essa qualidade a quem escreve um código, é o mesmo que equiparar quem escreve um livro de culinária ao cozinheiro que deve realizar a fórmula de maneira que, quem come, possa gozá-la e saboreá-la. A arte culinária não entre no Éden das artes sumas: aquela é material, estas são espirituais. Ao abordar o problema do amor, que Carnelutti generaliza em todo o campo da atividade do indivíduo, dando como exemplo a conduta de Jesus na Terra entre os homens, o que para ele seria o mundo ideal, entre quase num muindo utópico, como as personagens do famoso livro crítico "Cândido" de Voltaire.

Synesthesia is the phenomenon where sensual perceptions are joined together as a combined experience – that is, the ability to feel color, hear the visual, or even smell emotion. These types of unions expand the normativity of our legal thinking, as the abilities to represent the tethering of emotion, place, and concept to law are magnified. In this way, interpretations of law and legal phenomena that are enriched with embodied meaning contribute to our understanding of how law works – namely through sensory input, sensory output, and the attachment that happens within these sensory unions. This edited volume explores the richly complex manifestations of synesthesia and law drawing from a plurality of approaches, including legal studies, philosophy, social science, linguistics, history, cultural studies, and the humanities. Contributions in the volume discuss how we feel/taste/smell/see/hear law within the synesthetic scope of legal interpretation, legal consciousness, and legal culture. The collection examines aspects of embodiment, place, and presence that constitutively frame law amidst social, cultural, and historical contexts.
