De Nederlandse kunstschilder en etser Anton Heyboer (1924-2005) stond bekend om zijn veelzijdige en excentrieke kunstwerken. Hij tekende, schilderde en etste. Over Heyboers vroege werk uit de jaren vijftig, zijn Haarlemse periode (1952-1959), was tot dusver niet veel bekend, terwijl deze jaren de wordingsgeschiedenis van Heyboer sterk hebben beïnvloed. Enkele tientallen etsen die bekend zijn uit deze tijd kwamen hoofdzakelijk uit de verzameling van A.D. Bloemsma, de Haarlemse arts van Heyboer. Heyboer zelf beweerde altijd dat hij zijn vroege werk had vernietigd. In 2004 dook er echter een onbekende ets uit 1957 op, naar later bleek afkomstig uit de verzameling van Bezorging Couzijn Simon en Georges Knubben Josef Santen & Haarlems kunstenaar, vriend en mecenas van Heyboer. Hieruit zijn tussen 2004 en 2010 door de bezorgers enkele honderden onbekende werken (etsen, tekeningen en schilderijen)verworven. Ze kunnen worden beshouwd als 'The missing years' in het omvangrijke oeuvre van Heyboer.
