Il Significato e le Origini dell'ArteNell'immaginario collettivo l'arte è vista come un qualcosa di importante. Milioni di persone ogni anno nel Mondo visitano musei ed osservano opere d'arte antiche, moderne e contemporanee, ma la maggior parte di queste non sa bene perché l'arte da sempre è ritenuta una realtà di notevole importanza. Questa questione è stata da sempre, uno dei miei ricorrenti interrogativi. Che cos'è l'arte? Perché l'essere umano civilizzato e quello ancora allo stato primitivo, la considera così importante? La risposta che sono riuscito a dare dopo molti anni di studio è semplice: "La spiritualità dell'essere umano si è evoluta grazie all'arte". Nell'analisi dello studio delle varie mitologie scaturisce una inaspettata coincidenza. Pare che tutti i miti siano universali, simili e coincidenti, come la fede per gli stessi archetipi. Tale ricerca tende ad indicare un comune denominatore simbolico e antropologico, che prescinde dal fatto reale o storico, ma ne deriva un significato inaspettatamente sensato, storico e reale. Questa simbologia universale inizia, con le sue prime origini, nell'iconografia dell'arte primitiva preistorica. Parallelamente prosegue il suo significato storico attraverso l'evoluzione delle arti. Queste sono legate inevitabilmente alla stessa evoluzione dell'essere intelligente. Il percorso dell'uomo procede grazie alla simbologia, pratica e spirituale, racchiusa nella sua arte; nel pensiero Creativo. Egli adotta le immagini e i simboli, come strumento di conoscenza e di trascendenza logica e metafisica. Questo è il significato originario dell'arte. L'arte prima della scienza. Il pensiero creativo viene prima di tutto, poi la manualità della creazione. In tal senso l'arte è così importante. Questo valore riecheggia nell'immaginario collettivo tutt'oggi, ma non è ancora chiaro tra le persone comuni. L'antropologia non segue ovviamente concetti metafisici, ma pone le sue ricerche su fatti concreti in relazione a quelli mitici. Questi sono il tentativo della continuità e della testimonianza storica, per questo devono essere decifrati. La lettura storica dei miti, può essere anche tradotta sotto un profilo metaforico, dovuto in parte ad una serie di coincidenze dovute al legame archetipo del pensiero umano. Questo è in parte dovuto evidentemente, ad un legame storico effettivo, che ha mutato il significato originale, ma presenta un evidente residuo di quest'ultimo. Il significato originario del racconto, si è adattato al proprio contesto storico autoctono di una determinata etnia. In conclusione alla domanda perché l'arte è importante? che cos'è l'arte? in cosa consiste il vero significato dell'arte? Il significato più profondo dell'arte risiede nel concetto relazionato agli archetipi, presenti nel macrocosmo e nel microcosmo. L'aspetto più importante è relazionato al concetto spirituale dell'arte, nel rapporto inerente l'atto della creazione, il quale rievoca il mistero dell'esistenza. Il principio di tutte le cose, il fondamento dell'esistenza degli esseri viventi, il mistero e l'arcano significato dell'esistenza. Il concetto Culturale più alto in assoluto, al di fuori di ogni speculazione intellettuale, scientifica o artistica. L'opera d'arte è l'infinita reminiscenza, nel microcosmo, dell'atto del Creatore. L'artista è l'infinita reminiscenza, nel microcosmo, dell'emanazione del Creatore. Il Creatore non è il Grande Architetto degli Illuminati, ma egli è il Grande Artista. Il Grande Artista è il Creatore: "Colui che crea tutte le cose". In tal senso l'Arte è la reminiscenza dell'atto del Creatore del macrocosmo, che rivive nell'emanazione delle Anime Creative del microcosmo. Luca Falace

In 1919, Sabato Rodia purchased a triangular plot of land in a multiethnic, working-class, semi-rural district. He set to work on an unusual building project in his own yard. By night, Rodia dreamed and excogitated, and by day he built. He experimented with form, color, texture, cement mixtures, and construction techniques. He built, tore down, and re-built. As an artist completely possessed by his work, he was often derided as an incomprehensible crazy man. Providing a multifaceted, holistic understanding of Rodia, the towers, and the cultural/social/physical environment within which the towers and their maker can be understood, Sabato Rodia’s Towers in Watts compiles essays from twenty authors, offering perspectives from the arts, the communities involved in the preservation and interpretation of the towers, and the academy. Most of the contributions originated at two interdisciplinary conferences held in Los Angeles and in Italy: “Art & Migration: Sabato Rodia’s Towers in Watts, Los Angeles” and “The Watts Towers Common Ground Initiative: Art, Migrations, Development.” The Watts Towers are wondrous objects of art and architecture as well as the expression and embodiment of the resolve of a singular artistic genius to do something great. But they also recount the heroic civic efforts (art and social action) to save them, both of which continue to this day to evoke awe and inspiration. Filo conduttore dei quattro saggi qui riuniti è l’idea secondo cui gli stili pittorici e gli schemi iconografici possano esprimere qualcosa di ulteriore rispetto alla loro valenza estetica e storico-artistica. Un’ulteriorità concettuale che si concretizza nella prossimità della forma visibile, resa a sua volta pensabile dalla consapevolezza di poter concepire la storia dell’arte non solo ed esclusivamente come una disciplina storica ma anche come un’ermeneutica dell’esperienza umana. Riconoscere nelle componenti antropologiche integrate nell’opera d’arte l’alimento stesso della forma dell’opera, e in questa stessa forma l’essenza del contenuto che l’opera veicola, è uno dei principi che anima la presente ricerca. In questo senso la pittura barocca – da quella degli albori, post-manierista e controriformata della produzione lombarda del Morazzone, fino alla stagione finale, qui rappresentata dal cilentano Paolo De Matteis, passando attraverso il “caravaggismo lorenese” di Georges de La Tour, il “barocco naturalistico” del ligure Orazio De Ferrari e la “commutazione energetica” di Rembrandt – rivela tutta la sua ricchezza concettuale, dimostrando quanto la metafora della piega deleuziana riesca a esprimere l’idea che l’immagine sia il fuori del pensiero e al tempo stesso la forza che si scatena dentro di esso.

This edited collection explores the image of the wound as a ‘cultural symptom’ and a literary-visual trope at the core of representations of a new concept of selfhood in Early Modern Italian and English cultures, as expressed in the two complementary poles of poetry and theatre. The semantic field of the wounded body concerns both the image of the wound as a traumatic event, which leaves a mark on someone’s body and soul (and prompts one to investigate its causes and potential solutions), and the motif of the scar, which draws attention to the fact that time has passed and urges those who look at it to engage in an introspective and analytical process. By studying and describing the transmission of this metaphoric paradigm through the literary tradition, the contributors show how the image of the bodily wound—from Petrarch’s representation of the Self to the overt crisis that affects the heroes and the poetic worlds created by Ariosto and Tasso, Spenser and Shakespeare—could respond to the emergence of Modernity as a new cultural feature.
