Christian apologetics is often seen as the art of defending the truth of the Christian faith through arguments. As a result, most books focus on debating evidence. Apologetics Beyond Arguments breaks new ground by addressing a critical gap: the lack of methodological reflection in the field. This book presents a fresh meta-apologetic framework, redefining apologetics as the practice of Christian persuasion. By doing so, it opens the door to new insights and questions drawn from fields such as rhetoric, psychology, and ethics, bridging the gap between sound arguments and effective persuasion.”

Sometimes the arguments themselves just aren't that good. How can we make them better? Sire offers insights on making a persuasive case for Christ.

Most introductions to apologetics begin with the "how to" of defending the faith, diving right into the major apologetic arguments and the body of evidence. For those who want a more foundational look at this contested theological discipline, this book examines Christian apologetics in its nature, history, approaches, objections and practice.

What do Christianity and queerness have to do with each other? Can Christianity be queered? Queer Theology offers a readable introduction to a difficult debate. Summarizing the various apologetic arguments for the inclusion of queer people in Christianity, Tonstad moves beyond inclusion to argue for a queer theology that builds on the interconnection of theology with sex and money. Thoroughly grounded in queer theory as well as in Christian theology, Queer Theology grapples with the fundamental challenges of the body, sex, and death, as these are where queerness and Christianity find (and, maybe, lose) each other.

There is a seeming dichotomy in C. S. Lewis's writing. On the one hand we see the writer of argumentative works, and on the other hand we have the imaginative poet. Lewis also found this dichotomy within himself. When he was a rationalist and atheist he found that these two sides of him were pulling in different directions: he believed that his rationalist side could not be reconciled with his imaginative side. Once he became a Christian, he eventually found a means of marrying the two--principally, through story and myth.Within C. S. Lewis studies, there is also a common conception of Lewis as a modern rationalist philosopher, i.e., a rationalist who thinks arguments (and his arguments in particular) are the last answer on the questions he undertakes. Reasoning beyond Reason attempts to take this view to task by placing Lewis back into his pre-modern context and showing that his sources and influences are classical ones. In this process Lewis is viewed through the idea that imagination and reason are connected in an intimate way: they are different expressions of a single divine source of truth, and there is an imagination already present upon which reason works. Lewis's "transpositional" view of imagination implicitly pushes towards a somewhat radical position: the imagination is to be seen as theological in its reliance upon something more than the merely material; it necessarily relies on a transcendent funding for its use and meaning. In other words, the imagination is a well-source for what we might normally label "rational."

Lewis was an amazing author who has impacted the faith of millions of people around the world. Unfortunately, most people never read anything by C.S. Lewis other than The Chronicles of Narnia. This is good as far as it goes, but what a shame if that's all one ever reads of this genius. Although some may go on to read Mere Christianity or even The Screwtape Letters, Miracles or The Problem of Pain, very few have ever mined the riches that are to be found in Lewis's collected essays or had their longing for the numinous stirred by hauntingly brilliant Dymer and The Pilgrim's Regress. It is my desire in this book to show that Lewis is more than just Narnia. Beyond Narnia: The Theology of C.S. Lewis is an in-depth analysis of the most important themes in the work of C.S. Lewis, including the sensation of joy or longing as signposts to God, his view of the Bible as both myth and the Word of God, his defense of miracles against Hume's famous critique, his insightful observations on the problem of pain and his often misunderstood but groundbreaking thoughts on hell. This book provides an accessible and thorough introduction to C.S. Lewis for undergraduate students and Lewis fans who want to go deeper in their understanding.

Are postmodern philosophy and Christian theology compatible? A surprising number of Christian philosophers and theologians think so. However, these same thinkers argue that postmodern insights entail the rejection of natural theology, the ability to discover knowledge about the existence and nature of God in the natural world. Postmodernism, they claim, shows that appealing to nature to demonstrate or infer the existence of God is foolish because these appeals rely on modernity's outmoded grounds for knowledge. Moreover, natural theology and apologetics are often hindrances to authentic Christian faith. Notions like objectivity and rationality are forms of idolatry from which Christians should repent. This book carefully examines the nature of truth, rationality, general revelation, and evangelism to show that the postmodern objections fail and that Christians ought to lovingly and faithfully use natural theology and apologetics to defend and commend the Christian faith to a world in need of the knowledge of God.
