E.D. Blodgett, winner of the Governor General's Award for Poetry, returns to Apostrophes with a music passing through his eyes. His latest collection, open the grass, brings glimpses into eternity, visions of a translucent muse trickling through fingers, and places of silence, and darkness, and epiphany. Blodgett's poetry has the ability to penetrate the mundane with a profound aesthetic sense. His spare, strong words kick up pleasure in the eye and unforeseen recognition. These sixty-six poems open the natural world to embrace human passage.

The definitive bibliography of Canada’s Governor General’s Literary Awards Alice Munro, Michael Ondaatje, Margaret Atwood, Antonine Maillet, Carol Shields, Marie-Claire Blais, Gilles Vigneault... For over three quarters of a century, the Governor General’s Literary Awards have been instrumental in recognizing many of Canada’s best authors, illustrators and translators. The result is impressive: between 1936 and 2017, 705 titles have been recognized with this prestigious award. With careful attention to detail, Andrew Irvine presents the history and evolution of the Awards and extols their importance for the careers of authors, illustrators and translators, as well as for the development of Canada’s national literature. The heart of the book contains the first comprehensive bibliography of the awards, including the first list of winning books organized according to their historically correct award categories; information about five books wrongly omitted from previous lists of winning titles; detailed information about award ceremonies, film adaptations and jury members; and other key information. This is a seminal work that belongs on the shelf of every scholar and every lover of Canadian literature. This book is published in English. Poetics Of Naming written by George Melnyk and has been published by University of Alberta this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-10-20 with Literary Criticism categories.

The Poetics of Naming is a fascinating blend of postmodern philosophy and mysticism that challenges our conventional view of language. It begins with the narrator’s discussion of a multi-faceted identity based on his name(s). Because this identity is multi-lingual and multi-national, its layering of the self leads to a confrontation with language. The narrator asks what is the relationship between language and truth? The formative power of language is great, but what happens when we become "languageless?" The book becomes an expression of a mystical experience the narrator calls "poesis" in which he stepped outside of language. Expressing this experience of languagelessness through language is the paradox at the core of the book. To achieve a simulation of languageless reality, the author uses a variety of linguistic techniques that uproot meanings, break-up words, and reconstruct terms in novel ways. Through deconstruction the metaphoric structure of language is revealed. This metaphoric structure is itself approached metaphorically so that the reader begins to sense the trap of a linguistic universe from which there is no escape. The book is a literary exercise that simulates the author’s poesis experience for the reader. Eventually the flood of words on the page begins to go out of focus and dissolve as the reader approaches languagelessness. The Poetics of Naming is not for the faint of heart. It challenges its readers to move away from the comfortable universe of ordinary language and its meanings and enter a world where the boundaries crumble like digital illusions and limitlessness appears on the horizon of consciousness. Poesis is frightening, frustrating and liberating.

Deixis And Frames Of Reference In Hellenistic Dedicatory Epigrams written by Flavia Licciardello and has been published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-10-24 with Literary Criticism categories.

The book presents an analysis of communicative structures and deictic elements in Hellenistic dedicatory epigrams. Moving from the most recent linguistic theories on pragmatics and considering together both Stein- and Buchepigramme, this study investigates the linguistic means that are employed in texts transmitted on different media (the stone and the book) to point to and describe their spatial and temporal context. The research is based on the collection of a new corpus of Hellenistic book and inscribed dedicatory epigrams, which were compared to pre-Hellenistic dedicatory epigrams in order to highlight the crucial changes that characterise the development of the epigrammatic genre in the Hellenistic era. By demonstrating that the evolution of the epigrammatic genre moved on the same track for book and stone epigrams, this work offers an important contribution to the ongoing debate on the history of the epigrammatic genre and aims to stimulate further reflection on a poetic genre, which, since its origins in the Greek world, has been successful both in ancient and modern literary traditions.

I said Id stopped, but here it is#6! Such a horrible life, isnt it? Walking by these word errors everywhere! Well, trying to walk/drive past them for me! I cant stop spotting them, though, and still I get off the bus / walk back / or drive to photograph them, record them for posterity. No one cares anymore, do they?! Bar me! Surely some governmental edict has to be passed to make sure that such horrors are against the law. Common law should deal with these oh-so-common mistakes! Give me the job (Whoops Apostrophe Terminator?) of going into these shops and reading the riot act? Every time that I have mentioned an error, I talk to people who just dont care and also look at me as if I were crazy! Maybe I am. Mistakes that I have been able to fix on my own are far too few. I have done it the odd time, on the sly, via chalk or by me rubbing out the mistaken parts of Ap. / Sp. errors (Buy WA #1#6). Sometimes they get it right even on their ownthere is one example inside! This is the last one. Enjoy!
