El objetivo de esta investigación fue conocer la percepción de apoyo social que tienen actualmente los adultos que experimentaron un embarazo adolescente. Los participantes fueron 305 adultos, hombres y mujeres con experiencia de embarazo en la adolescencia; de estos, el 22 % son de Bogotá; el 27,9 %, de Montería; el 31,5 %, de Ibagué, y el 18,7 %, de Pereira. Tienen edades entre los 20 y los 56 años, 129 hombres (42,3 %) y 176 mujeres (57,7 %). La selección de la muestra no fue probabilística, sino a través de contactos personales e institucionales en las cuatro ciudades. Los investigadores se desplazaron a las ciudades y realizaron la recolección de información en cada una de estas, con una encuesta elaborada para tal fin. Los resultados mostraron que el apoyo recibido por parte de las familias fue el más frecuente y valorado como satisfactorio por hombres y mujeres Esto implica que la familia extensa, los abuelos y los hermanos, apoya-ron a los jóvenes para salir adelante desde el punto de vista emocional y material, principalmente. En el caso de la sociedad colombiana, la familia brinda más apoyo que el Estado. Con respecto a la comunidad, la región que mostró mayor percepción de apoyo social fue Montería. En cuanto a la percepción de apoyo por parte del Estado, consideran que este es escaso, a excepción de Montería. Se puede determinar que la familia socializa desde niños a las personas para convertirse en madres o padres como parte de su rol de género y su objetivo de vida, y son ellos mismos los que se encargan de apoyarlos durante y después del embarazo. El Estado en este estudio parece desdibujado como fuente de apoyo y la comunidad tampoco tiene la fuerza para apoyar. Dentro de las conclusiones, surgen como elemento importante en cualquier plan de prevención del embarazo adolescente las familias extensas, pues estas se convierten en el foco importante de intervención, incluso más que los adolescentes, para prevenir los embarazos en estas edades.
