Il volume racchiude i contributi presentati in occasione del I° Convegno Internazionale sulla cultura materiale etrusca dell'Appennino, tenutosi ad Arezzo e Dicomano (FI) nell’ottobre 2019 e incentrato sulle varie produzioni ceramiche note nei due versanti, toscano ed emiliano-romagnolo. Il Convegno, nato con l’obiettivo di far dialogare aree spesso considerate marginali, ha preso in esame una variegata serie di casi studio la cui interazione, scaturita da un’analisi complessiva che ha tenuto conto delle specificità cronologiche e territoriali, ha permesso di gettare nuova lucesull’identità culturale di questi distretti. Dalla “messa a sistema” di un ingente numero di informazioni emerge un quadro complesso con numerose linee di contatto, a riprova della specificità del distretto appenninico e dei vari aspetti sovraterrioriali dell'artigianato artistico etrusco, evidentemente scaturiti dalla condivisione di aspetti tecnici e, più in generale, culturali tra Etruria padana e Etruria settentrionale lungo lo sviluppo della civiltà etrusca, dall'età del Ferro al periodo ellenistico.

Analysis of hundreds of art works from the period provides insights into forgotten landscapes and hidden geographies.After the Napoleonic wars many wealthy British women and men settled along the coast in Liguria and travelled in Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta in search of warmth and health. They established English-speaking colonies of retired clerics, colonial officials, aristocrats and industrialists at places such as Alassio, Bordighera, Sanremo and Portofino. Many were keen artists.This book assesses hundreds of topographical drawings, paintings and photographs of north-west Italy produced by these British visitors and residents in the nineteenth and early twentieth century. Through the identification and analysis of these works, scattered today in private and public collections in Italy and Britain, it provides insights into the way Italian landscapes were understood and appreciated. Considered in conjunction with historical photography, maps, archives and fieldwork, they deepen our knowledge of past land management traditions and recover how the contemporary landscape looked. Quale contributo può dare l’archeologia alla ricostruzione dei sistemi di gestione delle risorse ambientali? E come cambia la ricostruzione degli assetti insediativi e della cultura materiale con un tale approccio? In questo libro, l’autrice risponde a queste domande mettendo alla prova gli strumenti di lavoro dell’archeologia e le sue procedure di costruzione delle fonti (archeologia di scavo, archeologia dell’edilizia storica, archeologia di superficie). Il volume affronta esplicitamente il problema delle relazioni tra archeologia e storia e tra archeologia e ricerca geografica e ambientale o naturalistica. L’obiettivo è la definizione di nuovi spazi analitici con la costruzione di serie documentarie più ampie. Il libro ricostruisce le coordinate teoriche e metodologiche della ricerca archeologica sugli spazi rurali, a partire dalle discussioni sulla storia della cultura materiale e sulla geografia del popolamento, e attraverso la rivendicazione del ruolo dell’archeologia postmedievale come campo di studi specifico, fino ai possibili sviluppi dell’archeologia rurale, grazie al dialogo recente con l’ecologia storica. Le proposte metodologiche sono applicate da Anna Maria Stagno a tre casi di studio, che indagano oggetti e contesti diversi all’interno dell’area appenninica ligure: edifici, acquedotti irrigui, neviere. Attraverso di essi, senza abbandonare lo sguardo di archeologa, l’autrice si misura con fonti demografiche, giurisdizionali, cartografiche, amministrative e fiscali. Gli oggetti indagati sono anche l’occasione per affrontare da diverse prospettive una riflessione sui processi di definizione, tutela e valorizzazione del patrimonio rurale, che costituiscono oggi un elemento centrale nelle dinamiche dei territori analizzati.
