It has for some time been the author's opinion that the need exists for a complete, self-contained volume on hydrodynamics addressed to and written in an idiom for geologists and geophysicists actively engaged in the search for hydrocarbons. This book is offered as my attempt to satisfy this need. Explorationists traditionally concern themselves with four basic aspects of oil and gas occurrence, since these constitute the necessary con ditions enhancing the likelihood of subsurface hydrocarbon accumula tions. They are: Trap, Reservoir, Source, and the Fluids themselves. His torically, great attention has been paid to traps and reservoirs, and much pertinent literature on structure, stratigraphy and lithology is available. With respect to sources, an increasing body of literature is becoming avail able in the form of articles, books and research reports in the areas of geochemistry and mineralogy. It is to the largely ignored fourth aspect, the fluids, that this book is directed. In its formulation I have drawn from numerous sources: college physics texts ("hydrodynamics is one of the most difficult subjects in physics"), personal notes from a rigorous two-week course presented by M. K. Hub bert (who literally fathered the discipline), journal articles (some strong and others weak in their treatment of the subject), discussions with expe rienced exploration geologists (some of whom have successfully utilized these procedures and others who were not so sure), and experience gained as well as mistakes made in the course of my own personal oil and gas exploration activities.

Nanocolloids for Petroleum Engineering Enables readers to understand nanocolloids in upstream operations in the oil industry from an applied and theoretical point of view Nanocolloids for Petroleum Engineering brings together the background, latest advances, and practical and theoretical information about nanocolloids for petroleum engineering in one comprehensive volume. The text is structured in such a way to allow readers to easily distinguish key points and quickly gain the expertise they need to become more effective in their respective disciplines. For practical purposes and to aid in seamless reader comprehension, experiences of service companies, general guidance, and problem solving exercises are included throughout the text. The highly qualified authors specifically present the subject as petroleum experts and use a niche industry point of view, which means petroleum, reservoir, and drilling engineers will be able to quickly understand and digest the information contained within. Sample topics covered in the work include: A brief introduction to and classification of colloid systems, describing the main properties of nanocolloids crucial for practical application in petroleum engineering Nanocolloids application in reservoir engineering and development, illustrating reservoir conditions necessary for nanocolloids formation Nanocolloid applications in production operations, including the mechanism of nanoscale dispersion phase impact on physical properties of conventional substances utilized in upstream processes Nanocolloid application in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) and the impact of nanoparticles on conventional displacement agents Nanocolloids for Petroleum Engineering serves as a comprehensive reference work and standalone guide for petroleum engineers who are interested in gaining knowledge surrounding nanocolloids and harnessing that knowledge to aid in solving a wide variety of conventional challenges in the field.

Worldwide oil and gas development has shifted from conventional reservoirs to unconventional and deepwater reservoirs, characterized by high pressure, high temperature, ultra-low permeability, and extensively developed natural fractures. This transition to increasingly hostile environments introduces new challenges in well drilling and completion, such as downhole drilling issues, formation damage, and reduced productivity. Aiming to solve the challenges, drilling and completion technologies have excelled greatly in the past two decades. This book covers managed pressure drilling (MPD), the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in refining drilling processes, and the transformative effects of digitalization and automation. Emphasizing efficiency, safety, and environmental responsibility, the book also integrates methods like casing while drilling for improved efficiency, advanced diagnostics for rig safety, stabilization techniques for wellbores in fractured reservoirs, cement sheath integrity maintenance, and the optimization of continuous gas lift. Bridging theoretical concepts with practical applications, the narrative offers insights into both operational techniques and safety strategies, drawing from past experiences. The current state-of-the-art theories, technologies, and practices are covered, bridging the gaps between fundamental theories and engineering applications.
