Developed from the authors’ graduate-level biostatistics course, Applied Categorical and Count Data Analysis, Second Edition explains how to perform the statistical analysis of discrete data, including categorical and count outcomes. The authors have been teaching categorical data analysis courses at the University of Rochester and Tulane University for more than a decade. This book embodies their decade-long experience and insight in teaching and applying statistical models for categorical and count data. The authors describe the basic ideas underlying each concept, model, and approach to give readers a good grasp of the fundamentals of the methodology without relying on rigorous mathematical arguments. The second edition is a major revision of the first, adding much new material. It covers classic concepts and popular topics, such as contingency tables, logistic regression models, and Poisson regression models, along with modern areas that include models for zero-modified count outcomes, parametric and semiparametric longitudinal data analysis, reliability analysis, and methods for dealing with missing values. As in the first edition, R, SAS, SPSS, and Stata programming codes are provided for all the examples, enabling readers to immediately experiment with the data in the examples and even adapt or extend the codes to fit data from their own studies. Designed for a one-semester course for graduate and senior undergraduate students in biostatistics, this self-contained text is also suitable as a self-learning guide for biomedical and psychosocial researchers. It will help readers analyze data with discrete variables in a wide range of biomedical and psychosocial research fields. Features: Describes the basic ideas underlying each concept and model Includes R, SAS, SPSS and Stata programming codes for all the examples Features significantly expanded Chapters 4, 5, and 8 (Chapters 4-6, and 9 in the second edition Expands discussion for subtle issues in longitudinal and clustered data analysis such as time varying covariates and comparison of generalized linear mixed-effect models with GEE

Insight And Interpretation written by Roy Schafer and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-04-19 with Psychology categories.

Insight and interpretation are crucial tools of the psychoanalytic process that have been neglected and misunderstood in recent psychoanalytic literature, where the focus has shifted to the effects of countertransference on the relationship between patient and analyst. Roy Schafer brings these tools back to the forefront of psychoanalytic thinking, integrating them with recent contributions on countertransference to create a more cohesive understanding of the psychoanalytic process. These essays will prove invaluable to analysts trying to maintain an articulated and rounded view of what it takes to bring meaning to their patients lives through the power of insight and beneficial interpretations.

The Interpretation Of International Law By Domestic Courts written by Helmut Philipp Aust and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-01-21 with Law categories.

The Interpretation of International Law by Domestic Courts assesses the growing role of domestic courts in the interpretation of international law. It asks whether and if so to what extent domestic courts make use of the international rules of interpretation set forth in the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties. Given the expectation that rules of international law are to have a uniform interpretation and application throughout the world, the practice of domestic courts is considerably more diverse. The contributions to this book analyse three key questions: first, whether international law requires a coherent interpretive approach by domestic courts. Second, whether a common or convergent methodological outlook can be found in domestic court practice. Third, whether a common interpretive approach is desirable from a normative perspective. The book identfies a considerable tension between international law's ambition for universal and uniform application and a plurality of different approaches. This tension between unity and diversity is analysed by a group of leading international lawyers from a wide range of geographical, disciplinary and methodological approaches. Drawing on domestic practice of number of jurisdictions including, among others, Colombia, France, Japan, India, Israel, Mexico, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States, the book puts the interpretative practice of domestic courts in a wider context. Its chapters offer doctrinal, practical as well as theoretical perspectives on a central question for international law.

Applying Quantitative Bias Analysis To Epidemiologic Data written by Matthew P. Fox and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03-24 with Medical categories.

This textbook and guide focuses on methodologies for bias analysis in epidemiology and public health, not only providing updates to the first edition but also further developing methods and adding new advanced methods. As computational power available to analysts has improved and epidemiologic problems have become more advanced, missing data, Bayes, and empirical methods have become more commonly used. This new edition features updated examples throughout and adds coverage addressing: Measurement error pertaining to continuous and polytomous variables Methods surrounding person-time (rate) data Bias analysis using missing data, empirical (likelihood), and Bayes methods A unique feature of this revision is its section on best practices for implementing, presenting, and interpreting bias analyses. Pedagogically, the text guides students and professionals through the planning stages of bias analysis, including the design of validation studies and the collection of validity data from other sources. Three chapters present methods for corrections to address selection bias, uncontrolled confounding, and measurement errors, and subsequent sections extend these methods to probabilistic bias analysis, missing data methods, likelihood-based approaches, Bayesian methods, and best practices.

Legal Interpretation In International Commercial Arbitration written by Joanna Jemielniak and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-22 with Law categories.

This book fills a gap in legal academic study and practice in International Commercial Arbitration (ICA) by offering an in-depth analysis on legal discourse and interpretation. Written by a specialist in international business law, arbitration and legal theory, it examines the discursive framework of arbitral proceedings, through an exploration of the unique status of arbitration as a legal and semiotic phenomenon. Historical and contemporary aspects of legal discourse and interpretation are considered, as well as developments in the field of discourse analysis in ICA. A section is devoted to institutional and structural determinants of legal discourse in ICA in which ad hoc and institutional forms are examined. The book also deals with functional aspects of legal interpretation in arbitral discourse, focusing on interpretative standards, methods and considerations in decision-making in ICA. The comparative examinations of existing legal framework and case law reflect the international nature of the subject and the book will be of value to both academic and professional readers.
